MP raises concerns as residents say they have not received post for three weeks

A CUMBRIAN MP has raised concerns following residents' complaints regarding issues with post.

Two residents from St Bees, in west Cumbria, have said they haven't received post for over three weeks, which has led to missed hospital appointments, lack of bank statements and missing will updates.

The duo claim this issue is being experienced throughout St Bees.

A resident said: "Our postman said that they have been given more work, and told to prioritise parcels, I'm unsure how true this is.

"The lack of post is a huge issue, I was supposed to get an update from my will, and it was sent twice, but I never received the letter."

The resident said that constituents have also been in contacted with their local MP, Labour MP for Whitehaven and Workington, Josh MacAlister.

Mr MacAlister said: "I have consistently raised poor performance with Royal Mail management following dozens of complaints I've received from residents about missed or delayed deliveries.

"I keep being told the service is running normally, but this is clearly not the case. I have in the past escalated concerns to the Minister and will do so again given the failure to improve."

A second resident said that he has yet to receive any post since July 15, stating that he is still waiting on a bank statement that was sent by his bank on July 5.

When contacted for comment by Newsquest Cumbria, a spokesperson for Royal Mail said: "We know how important reliable deliveries are, particularly when people are waiting for hospital appointments, bills or other important letters.

"At times, individual routes may be affected by short-term local issues, which we work to resolve as quickly as possible.

"However, a delay of three weeks would be exceptionally rare and would be more likely to indicate an issue with an individual item."
