Anger over lost or damaged mail amid theory dog may be deterring postal workers

A resident says he has been left frustrated by months of disrupted post deliveries.

Darren Smith, who lives on Manor Street, Eccleshill, claims Royal Mail has refused to deliver letters to his front door for the past year.

Mr Smith alleges that instead of delivering to the door, postal workers often leave mail on an outside wall, with a neighbour, or in some cases, throw it over his gate.

He said: "The letter was absolutely soaking by the time we got to it."

Mr Smith said he believed the postal worker was not keen to deliver due to a fear of dogs.

Mr Smith confirmed he owns an American bulldog and a chihuahua but insists they are either indoors or accompanied by him or his wife when outside.

He said: "If they are out either me or my partner will be out with them. I don't understand why anybody who is scared of dogs would become a postman"

He said there had been no issues with deliveries prior to the past year.

the photo in the article shows the dog not wearing a lead or collar/ Also could be that the fear was developed while working as a postie.

No s**t Sherlock. Last time I looked, it wasn`t a pre-requisite for posties to like dogs. We don`t get paid enough to get bitten. One look at THAT dog. Would YOU think twice?

Blurred the name out on the letter, but they've given his name, street name and the number of his house is on the door in the picture

I suppose that letter could be addressed to one of the dogs though.

Move the red post box to the gate area, so entry to the property would not be required to deliver the letters.
