"The problem seems to lie in retention issues following the introduction of new contracts.
"During my visit, I saw first-hand how hard local posties are working to sort the situation out. I was assured that changes are being made to get local services back on their feet.
"In a couple of months time, I will visit again to see if the situation has improved.
"Thank you to everyone who got in touch to make me aware of the extent of the issue, I'm always happy to hear from constituents concerning local matters."
About the recent delays, a Royal Mail spokesperson said: "We know how important reliable deliveries are, particularly when people are waiting for bills, appointments or other important letters
"We are continuing to deliver mail across Dursley and Cam.
"At times, individual deliveries may be affected by short-term local issues, and where this happens our teams work to clear any outstanding mail as quickly as possible, with items not delivered that day prioritised for the next working day."
"Our current performance shows that more than 92 per cent of all letters are delivered on time and over 99 per cent within a week, meaning longer delays are rare.
"However, we know there is more to do and remain focused on improving reliability for all customers."
