ROYAL MAIL has warned customers of extensive delays – as extreme temperatures across the UK continue to cause havoc.

More than 90 postcodes nationwide are set to be affected by delivery disruptions.

Royal Mail has told Brits to expect “ongoing disruption” to parcel delivery, collection and distribution, following heat warnings across the country.

The courier said that due to the “extreme conditions”, adjustments have been made to postal operations.

This means that while service disruption is expected, Royal Mail said that “the safety of our posties and our customers remains our top priority”.

More than 15 postcodes have been affected by Amber weather alerts for extreme heat, lasting from June 22 until June 25.

This will cause disruptions to postal services mainly in the East Midlands area, with five locations in the West Midlands also affected.

Meanwhile, 75 locations have been issued a red weather warning for extreme heat, starting from tomorrow (June 24) and lasting until the following day.

These locations, including parts South West England, Wales and almost the entirety of London, are set to face severe delays to mail and delivery services as a result of the heat.

This follows the Met Office‘s extreme weather announcement, where it “looks increasingly likely to see a two to three day period where maximum temperatures in the shade exceed 37 Celsius, perhaps rising to 38 to 40 Celsius in some places.”

Under these conditions, postal workers are offered wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved tops and trousers fitted with ultraviolet radiation
protection.

Employees are also encouraged to take frequent breaks in the shade and to use sunscreen on any exposed skin.
