Royal Mail issues reported in Deeside and Llangollen today

Royal Mail has told residents in two areas of North Wales to expect issues with their post today (June 16).

People living in Deeside (CH5) and Llangollen (LL20) are facing disruption to their post after the company confirmed deliveries from one of its offices are being affected by local operational issues.

Royal Mail's daily service update for today (June 16), lists these two areas among the locations where 'delivery services may be disrupted' and where normal rounds are currently not possible.

What are Royal Mail saying about it?
They said: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

"We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."

What does it mean for residents?
Royal Mail say they will 'rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers'.

If you need to collect an item for which your postman/woman has left a 'Something for you' card, please check royalmail.com/services-near-you for details of Customer Service Point locations and opening hours.

People worried about missing or severely delayed post are also being advised that they may, in some circumstances, be able to claim compensation if an item sent using a Royal Mail service has been lost, damaged, or seriously delayed.

Citizens Advice says either the sender or the intended recipient can usually make a claim, but they will need proof of posting and details of how and when the item was sent.

The background to Royal Mail issues
The wider picture is that, throughout the UK, Royal Mail is failing to meet its annual delivery targets.

Only 75.7 per cent of first-class mail arrived the next working day in the year to March 31, according to the latest quality of service report, falling short of regulator Ofcom’s target of 90 per cent.

In the previous year, 76.3 per cent of first-class mail met the next-day standard.

Second-class mail performance also declined, with 90.2 per cent delivered within three working days, down from 92.2 per cent the previous year and again below Ofcom’s target of 95 per cent.

What Royal Mail are saying about the decline
Jamie Stephenson, chief operating officer at Royal Mail, said: "We’re putting significant investment into improving reliability and reaching these new delivery targets, but delivering lasting change across a network of this scale takes time.

"We have a plan to deploy the new delivery model to all delivery offices across the country by the Christmas peak period and have set clear targets for each quarter as changes are introduced across the network.

"Early performance this year shows we are tracking in line with the plan and moving in the right direction."
