Royal Mail 'superb performance' praised by Malvern reader

UNDERSTANDABLY, Royal Mail has for a long time come in for criticism for its irregular deliveries, often delivering unwanted circulars aplenty.

But credit where it’s due.

On Thursday night on May 21 and being very busy, I completely forgot a Scottish family member’s birthday occurring on Saturday, May 23.

I did consider sending an ‘instant’ electronic birthday card but thought it wouldn’t hit the spot!?

So very early on Friday morning I found a birthday card of sorts in a drawer and wrote a hurried, somewhat grovelling apology in the card assuming there was no chance of delivery in the current business climate and after all it was a bank holiday but at least I will have demonstrated personal effort.

I drove down to Great Malvern Post Office and, having already checked on Google that the two second-class stamps I’d affixed wouldn’t attract further indignation in Scotland by a demand for underpayment, popped it in the post box at around 9.30am.

Outcome? I was thanked for the card which was delivered on Saturday morning 420 miles away door to door from our house!

My thanks to Great Malvern Royal Mail staff and of course UK-wide for a superb performance, not least because it proved I hadn’t wasted my own time and effort.
