Long Term sick question
Colleague has been off for nearly 6 months after having a hip replacement, he was going to return to work before he goes on half pay but he's now been diagnosed with throat cancer. Where does he stand with his pay, can he come back to work if he's able to, if he goes sick again after being back at work for a short time, does he get full pay again for 6 months, any info please.

Long Term sick question
It's a rolling 4 year period so any sick in that 4 year period is counted for pay purposes
In short no once he goes on half pay that's it whether he comes back in between or not

Long Term sick question
Yes he can come back to work if he's able and up to it, although depending on what treatment he's having he might need an adjustment to his duty to help keep in work, as he has Cancer he is immediately covered under the Equality Act and Royal Fail should try and help him as much as possible with a `reasonable adjustment` but they are shite at it.
As for the pay situation your colleagues has used up his 6 months full pay allowance and will only get the full amount again in 4 years time, he will of course be adding to the allowance roughly a week every 2months worked.
If your colleague came back to work and then went off sick again he would only get 6 months half pay.
Hope your colleague gets well and all the help he can off your reps.
