It is important not too confuse one wave with one plan they are different.
6 hour spans come out of one wave and the union at the policy forum rejected Royal Mail's strategy on bringing in work later on one wave.
Your manager is referring to one plan. Every office is put into a catogaries based on their Weighted Items Per Work Hour figure which includes everything paid in your office , customer index , sick leave , accidents, employee survey results and IR /ER status.
Catogary 1 is the frontier offices which are all achieving above their WIPWH figure , achieving above all their KPi , are a model office for change with good IR / ER. These are the benchmark offices which all other offices via the principle of continuous improvement aim to get all offices to this level. But continuous improvement is a race without a finishing line so for the frontier offices they will test and pilot new ways of working and methods such as sorting / one wave etc.
Each of the other catogaries will have to improve in terms of the following
1. Standards ie all compliance to delivery methods and the business standards.
2. Effective Workplace management is efficiency right is the office working to targets of the business and Ofcom
3. IWM has all indoor working methods been deployed and have they all been kept too including porters and a process called clear view where there is a standard for sorting parcels , letters and flats so timings can be used to resource to workload.
4. Resource Managemrnt , this includes resourcing to workload ie absorbstion. Additionally the ticklish suggests an office time is aligned to when their second wave arrived.
5. The last strand is continuous improvement which means that your performance on everything has to keep on improving.
Obviously Royal Mail will want the CWU to agree One Plan. However I just can't how the union can when Royal Mail have developed in all by themselves for so long including choosing how you compare offices , even selecting which office is in which category and also using continuous improvement as the key principle of driving efficiency.
We shall see. But let's say we are heading into troubled waters on a range of issues including pay where Royal Mail will be reluctant to offer us anything significant due too two issues 1 That the Ofcom report including recommendations on Royal Mail's efficiency is due out any time now which all the indications are they are going to be critical of Royal Mail on efficiency so Royal Mail do not want to give a pay rise which is not self funding and 2. Unite are balloting the managers and Royal Mail are not going to offer us more than what they offered Royal Mail managers at this moment. Equally they will want conditions linked to efficiency on any deal.

One Plan ? What's it's all about help
I think our office was probably a frontier office a few years ago
But with the double whammy of losing some of our best full-time players and bigger deliveries; I would now assume that we have now slipped into relegation of Category 5.
Because everyday appears to be a 'crisis' whenever its busy or if someone happens to go on sick. The main problem I can already see in this plan is not the fact that 2 offices aren't the same but also the fact that no 2 sections in the one office are the same!! And no matter how hard they try and roll out something in one section, it doesn't always work that well in another section.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Probably because managers look after themselves and those who are in their sphere of influence and f**k the other sections and the rest of the office area.postslippete wrote:I think our office was probably a frontier office a few years ago
