6 speeding points on my license, Royal Mail ban?
Hi
I just got another 3 points on my license for speeding in my private car, Total 6 points.
Will Royal Mail take any action against me, I am a cdv driver.
Someone told me 6 points and RM retest you, someone else said 9 points,
I don't know what to believe.

Not necessarily as your accumulation of points on your license has been occurred outwith driving Royal Mail vehicles. If you came under the Royal Mail Professional Drivers Agreement then the 6 points on your license could have an adverse effect on you applying for any vacancies for a duty requiring 7.5 tonne vehicles.PostBoxer wrote:Hi

So RM would only stop me driving if I had got those 6 points in a RM vehicle?

If you incurred these speeding points whilst driving a Royal Mail vehicle then their is the high possibility that RM would suspend you from driving and put you through a refresher but as and I am assuming that your driving record within RM is unblemished then your ability to drive RM vehicles is not being brought into question although your private driving is. If RM decided to take action into your private driving then this would be a matter for your union rep to argue. You obviously would be informing RM management of your recent 3 points and this would come to light at the 6 month license check. I am not aware of someone being banned from driving RM vehicles on private vehicle offences. The point of the 6 monthly license check is to ensure that the license holder is not banned from driving all together. If you feel unsure then your best to bring this matter to your union rep to give you peace of mind.PostBoxer wrote:So RM would only stop me driving if I had got those 6 points in a RM vehicle?

I think then that I'm ok as long as I don't accrue any more points.
Thanks rehabron

If you drive for Royal Mail you may as well tell them anyway as it will come out when they do a licence check.

Although if you were using the car on delivery you may some questions to answer.
In essence, it may affect your job but that all depends on the circumstances and no one can give you a hard and fast ruling as each case is different. Worst case you don't tell them, they find out and sack you for dishonesty. Best case, you are upfront about it and promise it won't happen again, the boss will bollock you and that will be the end of the matter.
Most cases when people are honest will be towards the lower end of those 2 cases, most cases when people try to cover it up are at the other end.

The copy of the RM Drivers Manual I got given at changeover states (no edition or date on it) under 'Key Points For Drivers' (page 8):TrueBlueTerrier wrote:If you drive for Royal Mail you may as well tell them anyway as it will come out when they do a licence check.
'It is your responsibility to report any driving licence endorsements to your manager as soon as possible, whether the endorsements
were collected driving a RM or private vehicle. Checks will be made at least twice a year'

We all know 12 points is a ban, but what's the maximum points one can have on their licence and still hold their job?

Depends how accomodating your manager is. They might allow to to be a passenger or put you on a hct duty, until you can drive again?Dogbone129000 wrote: ↑12 May 2025, 08:15We all know 12 points is a ban, but what's the maximum points one can have on their licence and still hold their job?

Not necessarily, 12 points means you go to court to defend yourself. The judge may or may not ban you depending on circumstances.Dogbone129000 wrote: ↑12 May 2025, 08:15We all know 12 points is a ban, but what's the maximum points one can have on their licence and still hold their job?
