Re: Talks update
Not sure if the national briefing in London has even finished yet. There may be an LtB come out later today, although I suspect you will find the detail here on RMC first

Re: Talks update
CWU National Briefing
Dave thanked all Branches reps and members for their support against a difficult background
Dave said It was right to call off todays strike however If we don't achieve what we want then we will be on strike and notice will be served.
Privatisation Is a Set back
Life will be more difficult under a privatised company however Our campaign has put us at the forefront of getting a deal We have taken on the fight against the race to the bottom and we will ensure no asset stripping takes place
Employee shares looking at a trust to maximise member involvement
We are all disappointed with the Labour party reality was there was no support at the top of the party fighting against that and the under value of shares was always going to be difficult
Strike stand down
Based on progress and the concessions made going on strike would not have improved anything therefor we stood the strike down to make further progress on the talks
Improved offers
5 years legally binding agreement with an ongoing review 5 years and agreed reviews there are on after.
Establish a company charter where we set out principles and strategy legally binding
Eg no race to the bottom and protection of the USO
Pay
Royal Mail have stated they would Improve on 8.6% and we want incentive payments
Pensions
Separate deal
Industrial stability
R M wanted no strike deal off the table now
We want better IR processes improve not get rid off
No binding arbitration
No challenge on the ballot getting them to extend the ballot means no legal challenge
Shape of the deal and CWU objectives
Legal protection
We want protections on
No break up of RMG
No franchise any office or self employed walks
No part time industry
No inferior workforce terms and conditions
All grades covered
Parcel force in it just as much as RM
Securing future of the union not part of the deal must be talked about
Growth charter
Pay and reward
Must increase basic pay
Ot rates
Bonus
All grades covered
Pensions
Concession made on final salary for cwu grades
Stronger guarantees legally binding
Significant improvements are needed on defined contribution scheme
Agenda for growth
Difficult part of the agreement
Want an agreement that Creates stability and growth
Ensure letters are not just a side show
Want strategic involvement to future strategies
Key debate on how deliveries are managed
Complete change in management culture especially in deliveries
A solution has to be found around the daily conflict on workload in deliveries
If we cant achieve our objectives then we will call industrial action

Re: Talks update
Anything mentioned on back pay or are we to lose that which is worth in the region of £300 depending on what pay increase actually is.
D2D's any movement there?
Overtime rates, we was shafted on that previously so now very little incentive to go the extra mile when the return is minimal at best.

Re: Talks update
Knock on wood but it seems like we've gotten what we wanted on the industrial stability portion. No no-strike deal. No binding arbitration. If management and the union have to spend a week at ACAS, holding hands and sharing their feelings, as part of the IR framework before a strike, that's doesn't seem like much of a concession. (And who knows? It actually might improve industrial relations.)

Re: Talks update
Maybe I am being naive but how can you get a protection against a break up of Royal Mail group. I don't see how they could agree to this because if someone becomes the outright owner of the group they will surely do whatever they see fit to do with the company. Not always for the worst but maybe for the best for this company?

Re: Talks update
Going from my memory of the last deal and I admit as time goes by it's getting Worse. The back pay was given up as part of the deal? I'm sure Clash or someone could confirm this from thier extensive library of bedtime reading!
Probably best to forget that for now and consider it a bonus if it ever gets paid!

IIRC only 1 pay rise has NOT been backdated in the last few years.

Re: Talks update
Going out in the last 3 days (Sat & Mon) with the amount of packets and the sizes of these parcels, we are certainly becoming more and more dominant in the parcels* and packets market. Add the blasted D2D growth as well...TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I cannot see why it shouldn't at least be attempted.jack wrote:I cannot see how the above can seriously be addressed.Key debate on how deliveries are managed

A solution has to be found around the daily conflict on workload in deliveries
What is happening in Delivery cannot now be brushed under the carpet or lumped together with the rest of the group.
Right from the start workload, management of workload and growth of parcels and delivery methods and the usual conflicts/bullying and harassment has always been the most important issue, for me. They can stick their pay rise or even minor adjustments to the pension (mine is defined contributions anyways).
We have been mugged off for too long in delivery and given that we are actually more than any other group - we need to stand up more for ourselves.
80 minutes breaks in MC, whereas for example, a typical 24 hour delivery staff does not have a break built into their contract: 5 hours pay with a 4 hour or more delivery span and other associated jobs - they are having a laugh.
