I have been in this job for 30 years and after every strike members moan about sell outs etc. (I have myself) But if we all left the union do you think our terms and conditions would get better?

I was thinking that if I am honest. Using the vernacular if this is everyone at "Nottingham Postal Office" (An uncommon way for a postie to describe his unit) then they have gone off half cocked.

There is no agreement yet, lets wait to see if anything comes out of the ongoing discussion.

The strike is not cancelled - its postponed. In fact Royal Mail have agreed to extend the legal deadline on when we should take action, that in of itself is an EXTREMELY unusual concession.

Far from lets get Christmas out of the way, RM have imposed a 2 week period to get an acceptable deal on the table that the CWU will ask us to vote on.


I have been saying in my DO that the Union have to play hardball or they'll lose members, on the information we have is it time to pull the trigger and leave. No - we have to wait to see what the Proposed Agreement is, but going on what's being said I think they are making progress and its time to back the Union, not leave.

It is important not to rush to judgement,after the consultative ballot Royal Mail immediately produced an offer,now, after the emphatic industrial action ballot result they have improved upon that offer,let us wait and see the detail as to whether it will suffice.

It quite frankly amazes me how people are jumping to conclusions on no evidence whatsoever, only (possibly MIS) interpretation of a few sentences. Our negotiators feel they are, a last, getting somewhere useful, hence the postponement of the 4th November action. RM (as TBT said) made a very rare move in allowing the concession of extending the period IA until 20th November so you sense they are getting somewhere on their agenda. That is how negotiation works, and it appears that RM have finally learnt this. We give a bit, they give a bit, agreement is reached AND THEN WE SEE THE DETAILS!!! Not the speculation, rumour, word on the street, so and so told me that, the facts. We may not settle and be preparing for a strike again, but who knows!!

Why not strike at Christmas? Personally I'd welcome the chance for a break in the run up to Santa coming. a bit or r'n'r, some Christmas shopping or just time with the family who we're normally a bit too knackered to appreciate.

also every day we move nearer to xmas,i believe we will all have a big decision to make right on top of xmas..royal mail saying its a great deal and the union saying its the best were gonna get ..everyone has a long hard think, and says f**k it,we accept...a strike at xmas is something a lot of people dont want(postman or public)..pressure time.....!!!.we should negotiate from a position of strength,and i feel like notts1862,we could be cocking this right up..by the way notts1862...COYR

Who exactly is "everybody"?

If our negotiators believe they can get an acceptable deal without recourse to strike action, then that is good isn't it?
If they can't, then the door is still open for strike action on 20/11.
