Industrial Action Ballot – Government Announcement

The Government issuing the prospectus today for the sale of Royal Mail simply reinforces the need for a big yes vote in the Industrial Action Ballot.

The fact that the Government has timed their last two announcements to coincide with major CWU activities is testimony to the strength of the Union. The Government will no doubt make further announcements and Royal Mail will seek to challenge our Ballot but the Union will not be distracted from achieving our objectives. Our only focus is to achieve a big yes vote.

Please ensure the attached letter is printed and distributed to CWU members in the workplace.

Industrial Action Ballot – Government Announcement

The Government issuing the prospectus today for the sale of Royal Mail simply reinforces the need for a legally binding agreement that protects your interests for the long-term foreseeable future.

Nothing Government or Royal Mail say now or in the next few weeks changes the fact that voting yes will strengthen our claim and secure the agreement you deserve on legal protections, pay, pensions and workplace issues.

The Royal Mail Board will continue to aggressively promote privatisation – they have a lot resting on it personally. But these same people will not be around when the reality of privatisation hits the company, customers and the workforce. Vested interests and short-term gain must be challenged.

Voting yes is the only way to stop the impact of privatisation on your job, terms, conditions and contract of employment. The alternative is the race to the bottom where your job will be no different to that of a TNT Worker.

Your collective strength will be the decisive factor.

Vote yes.
