Hello. Is there any policy or guidlines detailing if an employee wishes to go to college? As with being a reserve, this will restrict the days available for work and contracted hours.

Which would you want to do? Most courses have evening classes which wouldn't restrict your working day - just takes longer. a colleague of mine took 7 years to complete a Maths degree from the OU and took annual leave when he needed to attend personally.

But evening classes aren't an option for those of us so knackered after the days work that we can't keep awake beyond tea time.

Evening classes don't work for those of us who do late shifts and Saturday morning classes are useless if you're night shift on the Friday night.

I've been doing an OU degree for four and a half years fitting it around my shifts. Because I mainly do lates and nights, it's not easy to get to any tutorials but that's an inconvenience rather than a disaster.

Looking at the fees they charge now, the Open University is ridiculously expensive if you live in England whereas the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland governments subsidise it down to a more affordable level.In England, the degree I'm doing would now cost £15,372 whereas for me in Scotland it will be closer to £6,000

It's a Degree course that's over two days.. I'm only contacted for three, so if I had an understanding employer theoretically it should be fine.
