Peeing in the same pot

Post by pinto da thief »

Hi all

I am leaving my postman job of 15 years this friday for another job :nana , i understand and i do not expect to be eligible to proceed with the free shares scheme :left: , that is fine, but what i do expect once it has been agreed between the CWU and RM is my back dated pay from april up to my leaving day this friday, after all, i have already worked this period and with no absences, so it is hard to see why i wouldnt be entitled to this.

So i asked my line manager on saturday could she find out for me and get it me in writing before i leave as i guess this could be quite tricky to chase up once you leave the business, to which she said she would do so.

On the monday the DOM walked up to me and said " errr we looked into the back dated pay issue and unfortunately you are not going to be eligible to receive it, i have even double checked by asking the union and they confirmed that this is the case i am afraid" so i was like " how can i not be eligible for it when i have already worked it, i cant change that now can i ? " to which he said " sorry mate i totally agree with you but that is just the way it is"

So always best to double check with the union in case it is a load of balls, so i popped my head in the union room, always with the feeling like you wasting their valuable time these days when you do but hey what the heck i am leaving friday, so i asked them had they spoken with the DOM in regards to myself leaving, to which they both were "eerrr ummm hmmm o yeah we did about your back dated pay" (they could only have had the conversation with the DOM that very morning because neither were in attendance on saturday when i approached my line manager about the issue and neither was the DOM) so not sure what the errr hmmm ummm was about, however they did proceed to mirror what the DOM had told me and said because i wont be a RM employee when the pay deal is agreed and a CWU member unfortunately i will not be receiving my back pay. At this point i believed them, it must be true then if the union says so, but then i am thinking well i have been a fully paid union member for the entire 15 years i have worked for RM yet there are non CWU members who are eligible for the back pay and other benefits etc, confusing :hmmmm

So got back to my frame and thought whats the point i may as well just leave now, ive served more than my weeks notice, they cant honor what i have already worked, earned and owed so why should i honor them, was just about to leave and my line manager says " whats wrong why havent you tied up etc" so i told her "im going home cos apparently im not getting any back dated pay, i know its not a lot but it is the principle", so her mouth hit the floor because she had actually just received an email she had printed and had in her hand straight from RM HR Services stating "He would get the back dated pay rise (whenever it takes place) unless he has a bad reason for leaving such as dismissal" :cuppa

So the question is, why was the union and the DOM so matter of fact about the statement they made when they were actually 100% incorrect ?, and where did they get their information from ? ;liar

I and the majority always feel our union at our office are too pally with management, calling each other pally nicknames, overheard slagging postman off together, going to the butty shop together, a conflict of interest i would put it. Maybe they are too busy with very important high scale issues and are fighting hard for us :Boo hoo! , but i have to say from our point of view on the shop floor and on the rounds you would be forgiven for thinking they didnt give a toss, we have two reps at the office yet they both have the same day off, saturday, no representation that day then :no no , we all joke about how you go in to the union room to ask them something that you just get shouted at or spoken to like your inconveniencing them, very very unapproachable, that is if you happen to actually spot them  I used to class one as a friend before he was a rep and in the first few years of being a rep, yet he will walk past me and not say hi when i say hi or just blanks me, i cant even say its just me because the majority all say the same thing :nervous

Glad i am getting away from all this scandalous BS, but i do feel bad for all my good pals whilst they have these clowns looking out for their best interests.

Very sad that my parting shot has to be at the union :arrrghhh

All I can say is it's the exact opposite in our office. Very approachable and they get back to you with any quires.

I would definitely suggest you contact the area Rep and tell him everything. Make it clear you don't have an axe to grind, mention this shoddy advice you were given and how unapproachable these two are. Also mention the day off thing that is disgusting. If you don't get a good result, and these two aren't re-trained go higher up the Union. Eventually this will be sorted. Don't leave these jokers to carry on as they are.

Also makes you think how many others who have left since this pay rise has been negotiated actually realise they are entitled to this money, I know our colleague has an email from HR saying he's entitled to the money but you can bet your bottom dollar when this deal is eventually settled he will still have to chase his entitlement up.
Think you are getting out at a good time, can't see this job getting any easier.

has the cwu agreed to this agreement ? as you seem to be talking about the backdated money , it will never happen with all the ties involved in the pay rise etc.

It will at some point whether it's this month, this year or next year at which point he'll be due back pay from April until his leaving date.
