TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS

Dear Colleague

ROYAL MAIL DISPUTE

The Postal Executive met today and agreed that further announcements on strike action will be communicated following Thursday’s Joint Consultative meeting.

We will also be writing to Allan Leighton insisting on fresh negotiations to resolve the dispute.

Further information will be sent out in due course.

Yours sincerely

Regional Action

Post by lovejoy »

An option that will be debated by the PEC on Thursday is possible regional action.

We have 10 regions in the CWU and the idea is to have a full week of action and take 2 regions per day out. This would mean 20% of the Country out each day for a whole week. Only one days pain for us but a week of pain for RM. To make it logistically a nightmare for RM we could pull out say the North-east and South west regions and so on so they are majorly stretched.

Downsides to this could be mail getting shifted to offices not on strike - but this would only increase backlog when the next region(s) took action

Drivers on long haul trips having to cross picket lines - This is very hard but we have to play calmer and cuter than ever.

Royal Mail will be sat there no thinking same old CWU and expecting either a 24hr strike of a Fri/Mon. If we hit them with a week of regional action it would knock them for six.

What to you guys think??

brilliant idea Lovejoy,we've got to be clever with this one.I know the CWU is trying to make us seem reasonable ,but they're giving Royal Mail too many chances and we are losing our momentum. If they don't want to have meaningful talks, which it seems they don't,then we've got to force them into it,sod being reasonable, the public don't care anyway.Regional strikes are a great idea or even different functions ie.Delivery one shift, processing one shift and distribution one shift. We've got to use Guerilla tactics if we wanna win

i agree about hitting them hard but to be honest the hard fact's are people don't mind one day walk out's as they can make up the lost earnings quite easily but there are lot's of people who simply cannot afford a week's pay loss, i know it's for the greater good but human nature dictates people think about the present and not the future

i think if the cwu announced a 1 week walkout they would be in for a shock to the amount of people who would cross the picket line's

sad but true

it would be one days action for each region so every member would lose 1days pay. there r 10 regions. If 2 go out every day that would last 5 days

I like the idea of 2 regions per day going out
the knock on effect would cause choas but we would only lose a days pay

the only problem would be, they could send the work to mail centers that were working and cause an unofficial walkout..

This is where we would have to be extremely disciplined. Anyhow there would be no point moving it from a region that was out on one day to a region that would be out the next.

Just trying to put forward some different ideas away from our standard well trodden path.

I agree with you comrade, the union have got to be two- steps ahead of RM, but with having to give 7 days notice they will have plenty of time to put a contingency plan together.
