What makes a person a 'scab'?
Is it someone who is supports the strike but it too afraid to stick up for their morals and so crosses the picket line? Or anyone who crosses the picket line even if they disagree with the reasons for the strike?

In the original sense of the word, a scab was someone who would not join a union. There days it seems to only apply to people crossing a picket line and breaking a strike, union member or not. A 'blackleg' or 'knobstick' was the term for someone who broke a strike.

In my view a "scab" is someone who is in the union, or who stays in the union, and knowingly crosses an official CWU picket. If you're not in the Union and you disagree with the Strike I have more respect for you because you are sticking to your beliefs (wrong or not). If you are a member of the CWU and crossed the picket line today - stand up for what you believe and resign from the union now.

In the USA in the late 1800s, they used to stick a stamp on goods which were produced by union labour so as people would know it was not manufactured by a scab firm.

These days it would be far more helpful if the non-union creatures were stamped on the forehead with the word 'SCAB'.
