1 week off in 6 (Losing pay)

Post by trythat »

I'm on the system where I work 5 weeks and then have a week off, as I was on strike today, will I now lose a days pay from my rota week?

Just re-read what I wrote and it doesn't make sense :) What I meant was, I've lost todays pay, but as each week I work, 1 day goes towards my rota week. Will also lose a day from my rota week, because of striking this week? Still looks lame, its easier to say this than to type the question :)

However they work it you were on Strike for 1 day so you should only loose 1 days pay - watch out for them trying it on.

Forgive my ignorance, as we don't have a shift anything like this one in my office. On your rest week, do you get no pay ?
Or do you get the same basic pay every week, regardless of whether you attended for duty / had a rest week ? Can't see how you could lose a day's pay and lose one of your days off too !!!!!!! That's like you lose out twice. No way.

We have some people in my office whose shifts are Tuesday - Saturday. When we had a series of one-day strikes in 1996, if the strike day was a Monday (normally a rest day for them), they lost neither pay nor holiday / rest day entitlement.
Obviously, if the strike day back then was a Saturday, all the Monday-Friday boys lost nothing but the Tues-Sat guys lost a day's pay.

If you do get no basic pay on your rest week, then you are in the same position as our Tues-Sat people, i.e. you don't lose pay or holiday / rest day entitlement if the strike is on a day you're not on duty !

If your pay is structured so that you get the same basic pay every week, it surely can't be the case that you lose money regardless of whether the strike takes place on a rest week or a working week !

If you are down as being off, on the day of a strike, then you still get paid, cos it wasnt your turn to be in. If its your turn to be in, and you dont work, then you lose a days pay. This is regardless of shift patterns. The pay aspects is simple, you get paid wether you are in or out of the office, on your week off rota. Its just a different way of having the time off, which gives more flexibility when it come to holidays, cos you can have a week away, when you are in your week off(on the rota) and not use your annual allocation.

Image Is it your week off? If it is I would have thought that's your good fortune and you should get paid, but 'Hey life's complicated enough' especially if you work for RM-------------A KOMPLICATED KWAKImage

I've been thinking about your shift pattern and presumably you work a six day week for 5 days pay.

1 day within that working week you will be on strike and that days pay will be witheld.

The sixth week you will receive a full weeks pay because it will be treated like a five day week where the strike day is the day off.

Cheers for the reply's, yes we work 6 days and get paid for 5, and the 6th week we don't work but get paid 5 days pay. Works quite well, and of course lots of people work their rota week and get paid overtime for every day they work, me - I find the older I get the more time I need off :)

I'm on rota from the 16th so I'll have to keep an eye on my slip.

Thanks again.

Hi Trythat,
You will not loose a days pay as you have already worked 48 hrs per week for the last 5 weeks and thats funded your rotating week off thats the up side.
The downside as I understand it is, if we are out on one of your working weeks then you can not work 48 hrs that week only 40 therefore you will be 1 day short on your next rotating week off ie 5 days, they will prob tell you to come into work on a mon or sat.
Lets hope they are too thick to realize this!!!!

PS Whilst on A/L or Rotating week off you are being paid by R/M so if you stand on the picket line you could leave yourself open to the conduct code as you can't be picketing whilst being payed by R/M.
Caution recomended.
