Why You Should Support The Union

Post by Rowdy »

My wife works for a company with no union. She is overworked and underpaid. She hasn't had a pay rise for a few years as the bosses say they are not making enough money. Not that they are making a loss, just not making enough. These bosses drive flash cars, have business lunches on company expenses and enjoy nice vacations in their holiday homes. My wife has now been off ill for 10 weeks and the first contact she had from her employer was a letter asking to meet with them and to give them access to her medical records. She declined the meeting citing ill health after getting advice from the CAB but had to give them access to her medical records. For the time she has been off she has received no sick pay and is only entitled to Statutory Sick Pay. Unfortunately she found out that they had docked her pay as they had overpaid her the month before. That left her with nothing, in fact her pay line had a minus on the total pay which she will now have to pay back off this months Statutory Sick Pay. And yes, the law say they can do this. God help single parents who have to go through this. They now want to get rid of her. Loyalty gets you no where with these people. You are only useful when you are slogging your guts out to line their pockets.

So if anyone out their is considering crossing the picket line please consider your actions. Without our union the bosses will walk all over us. We will face a future of low pay, job cuts and intimidation and you will have no one to fight your case.
We have had to tighten our belts lately with only my postie's wage to get by on. I have a mortgage and bills to pay but I will be supporting my union on Friday and not going into work. With strong support we can show the bosses that we are not prepared to back down. My wife can't take action to fight against injustices in her workplace, you can.

Rowdy, that statement of yours is a very, very sad indictment of the law as it stands in this country under a Labour Government at the beginning of the 21st Century.

This nation spends billions on war and third world countries and we cannot make sure our own people are looked after in sickness and old age - because the pensions are crap as well.

Hope the missus is better soon and finds a job with better prospects.

Perhaps our new Prime Minister would like to see this and find out what happens in the real world. :mad :mad :mad

how any union member can even think to go to work on friday baffles me what's the point of paying union dues if you dont take their advice.
any union person going to work on friday should be expelled from the union and told to haggle their own wage deals

That is the way it is for a lot of people in this 'neo-liberal' economy, in the 21st century.
That is why we have to fight, or we are all going to end up in the same conditions.
Good luck to you all. :lfo :cfo

Don't forget fellow reps when the next round of revisions take place, anyone who crosses the line has accepted that they are 25% overpaid and 40% underworked so they wont mind their deliveries/ collections getting ramped up with more work, they have also accepted that 40.000 jobs have to go so in the next round of job cuts they cant argue that it's their job going.
