Did you also know that you do not have to pay that part of your subs if you do not want to . You just tell them you want the political levey restored to your wages and there is nothing they can do about it and it will have no affect on your union membership. At least that way your contributing nothing to the bastards personaly. :so there :so there :so there :so there :so there

I WONDER IF DAVE WARD READS THIS FORUM. I'M IN TOTAL AGREEMENT. I PAY SUBS TO LABOUR PERSONALLY (DON'T ASSINATE ME) BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE PARTY OF THE WORKING CLASS. NOW BROWN IS PM, LABOUR HAVE A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO PROVE THEY ARE THE PARTY OF THE WORKING MAN/WOMAN. (I.E THIS DISPUTE) IF THEY DON'T, MY SUBS GO AND I'LL GET THE PARTY SUBSIDY REMOVED BY MY WAGES.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

No, he's only stood down from the Labour NEC. He's still a member of the Labour Party.

I've never paid the political levy since I joined 14 and 1/2 years ago.Our branch sec once told me that not all of the levy goes to the Labour Party, some goes to political campaigning, affiliation fees etc etc.

Anyone confirm this?

Nothing really. If he had any principle, he would leave completely.

I opted out of the political fund in 1998. A few months later several other people opted out, but it was a fight to get the ‘opt out’ forms from the Branch Secretary who was a Labour member and a councillor. Class War Federation and Solidarity Federation produced leaflets giving reasons why people should avoid paying the political levy. Very few people in our office pay the political levy these days. Who wants to fund a party which appoints the likes of Leighton and Crozier?
The political fund epitomises the absolute arrogance of Labour Politicians and their henchmen in the Trade Union movement. i.e: No matter how much they dump on us, appoint idiots to rule us, send our young men to die in illegal wars, close down our schools, run down our local hospitals and dentists, charge our children for a university education which they got for free, we, the Working Class will continue to vote for them and fund them in their crimes.
Personally, I won’t vote for them or fund them. In fact whenever we vote for union officials, I read the literature and as soon as I see a candidate who is still a member of the Labour Party, I know who not to vote for.
Let’s not kid ourselves. The Labour Party has long since given up any pretence of looking after the interests of the working class. They think we will vote for them simply because they aren’t the Conservative Party. There is very little difference between them these days.
Look at the history of the Labour Party. Every time a person or a group comes along which remotely resembles any form of socialism, Labour expel them. One of the first Governments to recognise the Fascist Fraco Government in Spain was Labour in 1945. No surprise since nine years earlier the party threatened to expel any of its members who went to Spain to join the workers’ milita or the International Brigade.
No, we shouldn’t be funding these self-interested, anti-working class capitalist stooges in any way. Their record speaks for itself. I would also like to see a law passed preventing businesses from making donations to the Tory Party as well.
Billy Hayes has commissioned Peter Keenlyside and Maria Exall to write a pamphlet encouraging the link between the CWU and the Labour Party. It should make for an interesting read, but not a convincing one for those of us having to work under Leighton and Crozier knowing which party put them there.

Cruisey in answer to your point about gordon brown proving he's for the working man look no further than to-days news. H e wants to cut the power the unions have in forming labour party policy. ENOUGH SAID. :no no

So what to do all about this then? How about we start something like asking the CWU to stop any money passed on or we all e-mail the CWU to ask now why any money at all is passed?
How about a web site?
