As some of you may have seen in another thread, I'm on leave during Friday's strike - I will actually be camping on Shell Island - and I want to know which is my local DO, so I can join the picket.....as far as I can tell from searching, I think it's in Harlech, but can anyone confirm or deny this for me, please?  :pray

I think it comes down to the Law - maximum of 6 people on the ACTUAL picket line.

However there is NO RESTRICTION on the number of people that (supporting) are around in the PROXIMITY of the actual PICKET LINE.

For example, if it were 'across the road' or the 'other side of the car park' or 'further down the road' then it would be legal.

I don't think there is a legal definition as to how far away the 'supporters' have to be from the actual Picket Line but it would be fair to assume that they would have to be a 'distance' from the Line.

At the end of the day, the ONLY thing that is IMORTANT is that WE have to ensure that we REMAIN LEGAL - the last thing we want is for CWU Members or Officials to get arrested - this would only play into the hands of Royal Mail.

Also it is not a good idea to badger/heckle/name-call/swear at/intimidate people who go past the Picket Line - I don't believe in the 'LONG GAME' that will help at all. I know this may make people annoyed or me unpopular but I do not think that being horrible on the day to 'strike breakers' is going to help OUR cause.

:no no  :lfo :cfo :nana :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray
It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

No D.O. in Harlech mate, just a great big castle.

The nearest delivery offices are Pwllheli,Porthmadoc and Barmouth but don't be surprised if some people are working.

If it's a picket line you want then Bangor or Caernarfon would be your best bets.

Anyhoo hope you have a good break on my manor

Cheers for that, Spartacus, I think I have found my picket line - I just hope it will be there for me! :pray :pray :pray

I'm looking forward to all the lovely sunshine promised by the Welsh Tourist Board ( maybe they got a couple of vacancies for Lies-by-the-ton & his Crony, when they get booted out :pray )

I know ive mentioned it before but 6 pickets on a picket line is NOT LAW its a goverment recomendation, to be used by police to impliment if there is trouble, you will usualy find that as long as theres no trouble then they wont enforce it, just look at how many firemen there were on their picket line during their dispute, everyman and his dog was there, and dont abuse strike breakers, we had a couple of lads at our place that were asked if they had abused strike breakers when we went back to work last time, its just an easy excuse to sack you.Use your heads and stay strong...UNITY IS STRENGTH.

However, I think I am correct in thinking, that if you suggest to strike breakers, that they join the picket & earn their right to any settlement, that is perfectly allowed.

Just found this link should help clear any and all confusion.

smokerjim, yes mate you can talk to them and ask them to join you on the picket line, all im saying is dont give RM any excuse to get at you, ive got loads of advisory notes telling us what we can and cant do on picket lines, got them from when we were on strike at christmas, but we learned a few lessons on law and how to picket on that strike...
