MDEC CWU MEMBERS MEETING 28TH JUNE.

21 Jun 2007, 23:04

Plymouth and East Cornwall CWU:ARGUS

You should all be aware by now that the CWU has called strike action over the 2007 pay offer and the future of our business. MDEC managers have been very keen to tell you that this dispute does not affect you but this is absolutely untrue!

You need to know that facts. If we don’t stand together and win this dispute then YOU in the MDEC face

Low pay FOREVER
Management changing your times / days of attendance with little or no notice
40,000 job losses nationwide – the MDEC will not escape this attack
Severe cutbacks at weekends affecting jobs and overtime
Movement of 2nd class mail to other mail centres could see a reduction in Early shifts in Mail Centres and MDECs
Amalgamation of 1c and 2c dispatch – this could cut out whole shifts in MDECs
MDECs will receive no payback for any savings made unlike OPG colleagues. CWU are fighting against this!

It is the CWU who are fighting for the rights of MDEC members. At the start of this dispute Royal Mail wanted to give you all NO pay rise. The CWU fought and changed this.

Our main objective is to get all MDEC keyers onto the same wage as your postal colleagues. If you come out and stand alongside us on the picket lines during this dispute then Royal Mail will not be able to ignore you ever again.

The truth is that this dispute is vital for every single employee in Royal Mail. Your managers are playing it down in the MDEC. This is because they have limited or no experience of the bigger picture and they are unable to answer any awkward questions.

Ask them how they can justify receiving £2000 bonuses while you are forced top accept a below inflation pay rise! Ask them why they receive late shift allowance but you don’t and ask them why they receive the same pay as operational managers but you are paid £50 less than a mail centre worker.
-----------------------------------------------------------

It is clear who is on your side and it is clear who are the only group working for MDEC keyers. We remain 100% committed to a negotiated settlement but if we are forced to strike to stop Royal Mail attacking you then we will. If that date comes then please show your backing and make a stand by joining your colleagues on the picket line. 77.5% of CWU members backed the union in our national ballot. This is a record return and there is widespread anger at the way Royal Mail are treating us across the Country and including in the MDEC.

This will be the first ever time that many of you will have been involved in strike action. Nobody ever wants strike action but the alternative is to rip up your contract of employment and give Royal Mail the green light to do whatever they want to you. They CWU will never accept this and neither should you.

If strike action takes place then you may be worried that Royal Mail will make changes while we are not in work. THIS WOULD BE ILLEGAL. You have been officially balloted and are 100% protected in law.

If you need any further clarification and have any questions to ask then you can either contact us by email at chriswebbcwu@yahoo.co.uk or jeffthomascwu@tiscali.co.uk or turn up at one of the meeting times below.

This is YOUR fight
This is YOUR time to make a stand
This is YOUR time to win equality

Back YOUR Union
FORCE ROYAL MAIL BACK AROUND THE TABLE
Non Members now need more than ever to join your colleagues. For a joining form please contact us by email or attend the membership meetings!
