Briefing was split in two different sections. Billy and Dave spoke on the politcal issues which are clearly moving forward. The Labour party are in disaray and looking for a way out but has to be a face saver. Prescot is the go between at the moment and progress is being made without going into details we are now in the room and making progress.

The other section was on idustrial matter with Dave , Bob Gibson , Phil Browne covering for Martin Collins and Terry Pullinger. Then questions and debate followed. Scotland disucssed their ballot and we in London said that our dispute is a national dispute and others should join in if we really wanted to be called a national union.

Dave then responded by saying clearly we would as a postal executive have to look at a timetable for National ballot. However as was quite rightly said by Bob Gibson was that if you wanted to fight now then your office can immediately have a ballot with the same question as London are being balloted on. Off course that will mean that reps will have to meet with the members and get them on board as there is no hiding place as it will be a ballot of your workplace.

I made the point yesterday there is no point branchs moving motions in two weeks time at conference over the shorter working week , pay , future of deliveries and mail centres. When instead of words they could be striking as London and the other 50 offices around the country are already in pursance of a shorter working week , and a national agreement which protects us in the future.

No E6 was not mentioned but there is a rumour of an emergency motion on E6 for conference. However I think the belief is that cameron has stated that they will only support the bill if there are no concessions to the back bench MPs who have signed the early day motion. The fact is that even Brown and Mandy cant ingnore the fact that they are in a trap. On one hand they depend on the tories to get the bill through and split the labour party and on the other they concede some things to the back bench mps who are on the fringes and lose the tory support. The CWU estimate at worst case we have now 90 MPs who will vote against the bill come what may.

The fear of the labour party is that this bill may well bring the government down leading to a leadership challenge and virutually killing th party. Some of the Labour party are seeking to delay the bill . The second reading if it goes ahead could well be when the cwu are at Conference. so we could all be bussed in from bournemouth.

Now Phil Browne spoke like the other officers that despite several meetings on the mail centre closures management do not want a national agreement and prefer to just discuss closures at local level. Not surprising as anyone who is in the know will understand thats why London and others are balloting over forcing a national agreement.

The fact is NEW LABOUR KILLED THE LABOUR PARTY and as such NEW LABOUR will not be missed nor mourned by me nor others the sooner this beast is dead the sooner we can revive a new workers party!.

Whatever happens with the sell off, we must have a ballot as per E6.

If the government back down it will because they have to to not because they want to.


And I can point out that went the Conservatives win the next election they will sell off RM and they will have the support of their MP's and they will get there way due to parlimentary majority being large enough and a sell off will undoutbedly be in their manifesto upon which they will be elected!!!!!

Simples brother Big Daz, we do as we have always done, we fight and take on all comers tooth and nail in defence of our terms, conditions and working practices. And who is to say that they will actually have a large enough parliamentary majority.
