It's refreshing to see an office fighting back and going against the grain of the DM26 shambles. :Applause

Please let us know here how you get on and whether you keep to the normal working duties.
:Applause

Are you reading this CWU :no no

Who is doing the scrapping of DM26?

Is this with management and/or CWU agreement?

Have you had a post implementation review yet?

DM26 isn't going to go away anywhere. One way or another every DO will have to implement it, RM will force it through if they have to.

I can't imagine it's with either of them in agreement, it needs a review I'd hazard a guess the duties were too big from day one.

No chance of it being scrapped. Remember, doing nothing wasn't an option so going back definitely isn't an option. At best there will be ad hoc fixes.

We're told another duty is getting put back in tomorrow. In my opinion, the area which has already had a few reinstated is doing far better than others which never ever had scope to touch a third frame. A proper revision beforehand that generated geographically consistent and achievable duties would have avoided this. I warned them when we were told last year there would be no revision before the then-impending ODM:

Fix the existing mess before you create a new one.

I don’t understand why we all haven’t had a full office revision either. It’s not like this has been a surprise to RM or the union it’s been in the works for best part of two years. Instead our office has just put it in with a wing and a prayer and guess what? It’s a complete mess.

The CWU agreed that full revisions were not part of the agreement. Then agreed to use the 2025 data to deploy DM26. The revision issue is historic. A progressive industry would have spent the pennies needed to carry out yearly full revisions instead of wasting the pounds on agreements that will not work. All the issues we face would not exist if the industry has been proactive and carried out yearly full revisions.

Absolutely spot on, RM are their own worst enemy, practically nothing proactive ever happens, never a robust plan in place for anything, Christmas is a great example we get a parcel driver or two dependant on no-one going sick and how many people willing to either work days off or work over to clear.

Suppose RM reports 6 months from now that 90% of DM26 offices are operating successfully. The real question is not how many offices eventually make DM26 work, but how much additional resource needed to be put back in before they do. And if more duties, staff hours, vans and overtime are required to make it all work then the hundreds of millions of pounds that the USO reforms were supposed to save annually may be substantially reduced.

It's my belief that the shared van/pod model is fundamentally flawed but RM are renowned for pushing through ideas which weren't universal. They trialled indoor delivery methods that were supposed to save 25 minutes per delivery per day by not putting mail in the frames, they experimented with one great big frame aka ringwood, seasonal variations and even the ODM which largely didn't work in most pilot offices. Stockton-on-Tees needed over 50 duties reinstated and still wasn't clearing daily. Imagine what your office would look like with another 50 duties put back in!! :left:

Something which I found quite revealing about the beginning of the ODM pilots: the CWU said that RM wanted a method change approach rather than conduct a planner led revision which would take considerably longer to deploy. That fits in with offices deploying DM26 even though many units are already understaffed or duties overextended. RM are planning to invest £500 million over 5 years rolling out the reformed delivery model so you would hope that they get the foundations right rather than trying to make another new method work on top of duties that were already unachievable.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

It appears to workers to be an entirely planner led process and therein lies the problems. DM26 is just like every other change in delivery. It's like painting damp with emulsion and then being surprised when the mould rapidly breaks through.
