What do othes think about starting a campaign withdrawing their contribution, which is part of their CWU dues, going to the political fund. This is money which is going to the Labour Party and is 10p from every member.
Why should we continue to support the party which employed Leighton, established the regulator and seems to be privatising our jobs by the back door.
What do you think?

IM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY ON THAT ONE BROTHER, WEVE ALREADY REDUCED OUR CONTRIBUTION BY HALF TO HALF A MILLION, WE OUGHT TO GIVE THEM F**K ALL AFTER THE WAY THEYVE TREATED US. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT A LABOUR GOVERMENT WOULD BE RESPONSABLE FOR THE LOSS OF ORDINARY WORKING CLASS PEOPLES JOBS..DISGUSTING...UNITY IS STRENGTH

Well said. Funnily enough, the bit you said about a Labour government made me think back to a classic 1985 speech by Neil Kinnock, which - with a couple of words changed - we should maybe send to Crozier and Leighton as a response to their badly-conceived plans for our pay, the modernisation of the business, and the veiled threat of compulsory redundancies if we don't accept a package ( to call it a pay 'offer' is an offence under the Trades Description Act, surely ?) that includes VRjohno47 wrote:IM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY ON THAT ONE BROTHER, WEVE ALREADY REDUCED OUR CONTRIBUTION BY HALF TO HALF A MILLION, WE OUGHT TO GIVE THEM F**K ALL AFTER THE WAY THEYVE TREATED US. ‘I’ll tell you what happens with impossible promises. You start with far-fetched resolutions. They are then pickled into a rigid dogma, a code, and you go through the years sticking to that, out-dated, misplaced, irrelevant to the real needs, and you end up in the grotesque chaos of a Labour-funded Royal Mail – a LABOUR-funded Royal Mail – hiring taxis to scuttle round the cities handing out redundancy notices to its own workers. I am telling you, no matter how entertaining, how fulfilling to short term egos – I’m telling you, and you’ll listen – you can’t play politics with people’s jobs and with people’s services or with their homes’

There's a bit in this thread The Labour leadership election
I was under the impression that only money from members who ticked the box for it when you signed up pay it.

A bribe or blackmail look at it anyway you wish, they both do the job.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Not all the political levy goes to the labour party, please bear that in mind!
Unison have split their levy which is what the CWU should do.
levy 1 general political activity
levy 2 affilation/donation money to a political party in this case labour.
If you are happy to give a few pence to labour through CWU as am i then that should be alowed whilst protecting the right of those who dont!
Hardly surprising Unison have a much lower take up on levy 2

I'm not saying that there shouldn't be some kind of political levy. But what I think should be done is it should be agreed and done by ballot at Branch level as to which politcal party/cause the money should go to and not just automatically to a Labout Party.
For instance Scotland has jus voted the SNP into power albeit by a small minority, every brancg member should have a say in where there money goes.

Dont forget the green party is increasingly having socalists voted into high posistions.
They are a pro trade union party.
However at local level in the council chambers they can be rather right wing voting for cuts to services.

political levy. p.o leadership
hi, why does this union continue to support/sponsor the labour party/labour mps? i have voted labour all my life but this shower take some beating! i could see the writing on the wall when leighton and crozier were appointed. leighton comes from a supermarket background (part time workers,no cooperation with unions, like it or lump it attitude)and his sidekick had a great record at the f.a. blair appointed these two! they know as much about the postal industry as i know about splitting the atom!

Political Levy
In the early trade union days politicians were needed by trade Unions to change unjust and appalling working conditions.
This gave birth to the Labour Party.
To day we have Politicians that think more of their pockets than of their principle's.What a betrayal.
Its time for the Political Levy to be used only for MPs that support the working conditions and aspirations of of Posties after all it is our industry not Leighton and Croziers. javascript:emoticon(':no no')
Shame on the New Labour Party(Old Tory)
