How is the unit rep a scab when the votes have not been counted yet?

Standards? what standards do you refer to?

Hi dazzamfc,

Know the feeling, Im the unit rep now, but in the last strike (late 90's) we had a few strike breakers.
One of which a couple of years later applied for post of unit rep!
And bugger me if he did'nt get it???

To top it all he was rep for SDD, then a week after SDD was implemented the prick went manager

(acting)

The union must vet potential rep's someone who breaks a picket line should never never be allowed to become a CWU Rep!!so I certainly know where you are coming from.

Don't forget the last strike was some years ago and delivery officers change their point of views and opinions.

No doubt he regrets crossing a picket line and also he was actually VOTED in as rep by members who knew he did so.

I hope not people can always change their mind. Take me as an example I am an ex-serviceman yet I am against us being in Iraq, strike breakers can see the light and change we have to make our arguments strong, and not just abuse them.

It takes a while for workers to realise their position in the world and must through bitter experience learn the hard way. When a worker is given all the facts and then takes the decision to scab, only then is he/she a scab. If he/she realises that their decision is wrong and goes on to the picket line he must be welcomed. For more info please read jack London's peice on strike breakers.

Has anyone had the RM brief on the STANDARDS OF STRIKE ACTION. My line manager
gave me a rundown this morning. IT went a bit like this.
NO MORE THAN 6 PICKETS ON THE PICKET LINE (ACAS RULES)
NO USE OF ROYAL MAIL PROPERTY eg. TOILETS/DRINKS MACHINES etc.
NO HARASSMENT OF STAFF CROSSING THE PICKET LINE. (apparently if we're observed
doing this, we could get conduct)
NO STOPPING STAFF AS THEY CROSS THE PICKET LINE.
NO USE OF QUADRANT (i'll just phone up the cafe for a georgie)
NO FOUL AND ABUSIVE LANGUAGE TO STAFF CROSSING THE PICKET LINE.
looks like the scab shouts aren't allowed then!
what i'd like to know is, who will report us for any breach of these standards. All the managers will be out delivering our duties

Cruisey...There is a code of practice for picketing and what you have been told is all in that. I actually have a copy. Any breach of this code can be reported to police by strike breakers or managers.

Why do you want to call anyone names at all for what they believe in? Tell you whats sadder than someone crossing the picket line.... all of you stood there in the cold all day like fools with nothing better to do! I tell you what also...... you know that statistic they came out with.. 40% underworked and so many % overpaid? well guess what? in my office id friggin agree with it haha, people stood around gossiping, texting, drinking tea etc etc NO ONE in my office works for more than oooh id say 60% of the working day...FACT, a lot of people dont work for 30% of the day!!! And the money they take home,FOR AN UNSKILLED JOB REMEMBER ,is quite good id say, show me a job an unskilled worker can walk into outside of royal mail and get the same pay? Basically you could train a monkey to do 99% of the jobs, YES THAT INCLUDES YOUR JOB haha, you could be replaced by any idiot off the street with 2 days training MAX!!! STOP WHINING AND GET SORTING HAHA. Fools dont know ya born!!!!

Haha no, but i think the point i made probably stands true in most offices, now im not talking here about delivery staff as i know a few well and they tell me they have a hard time some days, im talking about processing staff here, and how a vast majority of them completely take the piss and ARE 40% underworked AT LEAST! Anyone in processing telling me they seriously have a hard job? Id say bollocks then tell you you havent ever seen hard work! When there is price comparisons for royal mail pay they always put in things like mechanic and other skilled jobs alongside us to show what people are earning elsewhere, well guess what people, you aint as skilled as some of them people we get compared to!!! and as i said.... ive never seen a duty in royal mail that i couldnt train a tramp off the street to do in a few days............... it probably takes more skill to work at mcdonalds... SERIOUSLY, get over yourselves.
