25 hour contract query
A 25 hour contract postman in our office who currently works 5 days a week wants to maintain his contract but work it over 4 days as he is a primary carer for his elderly & unwell mother. He has had an OH referral which recommends the manager look into mutually agreeing a block 4 day week with the individual, giving him 3 continuous days off to benefit his work/life balance. The manager has said no because his contract is for 5 days. His contract only states 25 hours, not that he has to work over 5 days. Is there any agreement or thoughts on this issue please?

This route is an option; Grievance!!
RAISING CONCERNS AT WORK
The Raising Concerns procedure replaced the Bullying & Harassment and Grievance procedures as they were no longer fit for purpose, or being applied in a manner which was in the best interest of our members.. it is important that everyone should feel comfortable and able to raise concerns at work without fear of recrimination.
You can raise your concern in one of three ways:
Speak to your manager
Use the Raising Concerns tile on the People App
By calling the HR Helpdesk on 03456060603 (option 5)
Raising Concerns – the CWU guide for branches, representatives and members is linked below.
Click to access 08198-Raising-Concerns-A5-36pp-v1.pdf
Everyone should feel confident they are working in an inclusive culture and environment where everyone is treated fairly, with respect and protected from inappropriate behaviour. If you have an issue or concern but are unsure or lack confidence in raising it or the process, then please speak to your Unit or Area rep or contact the Branch for advice and support.
This procedure applies to all employees in Royal Mail Group Limited (including Parcelforce and Property, Facilities and Solutions)

Re: 25 hour contract query
You mention you are the primary carer for your unwell mother?
Does you mother have a condition such as a recognised disability that will be covered under the Equality Act 2010?
If so then you will be covered under DISABILITY BY ASSOCIATION which will contravene your protected characteristics.
Mention this to your manager and if he still will not budge, submit a grievance

Does the contract definitely not refer to a number of days?makingsounds wrote: ↑08 May 2025, 19:27A 25 hour contract postman in our office who currently works 5 days a week wants to maintain his contract but work it over 4 days as he is a primary carer for his elderly & unwell mother. Re: 25 hour contract query
I don't know what to say.. I'm on a 20 hour part time contract 4 hours over 5 days.. thing is I don't work 5 days as I cover 3 floats that take 6 hours each day so there's 18 .and I work every Sunday.. I don't know your circumstances but I imagine you are also covering days of and that's why your manager isn't playing ball so to speak..

Those 4 hours a day contracts boil my piss, you couldn't complete even if you started delivering immediately when you arrived at workPeabrain22 wrote: ↑09 May 2025, 20:42I don't know what to say.. Re: 25 hour contract query
It is worth reading the contract again. There will be a paragraph in it stating that the hours are over x amount of days. Probably not easy to spot.makingsounds wrote: ↑12 May 2025, 16:062021tramssirhc wrote: ↑11 May 2025, 19:02What year did they commence employment?makingsounds wrote: ↑11 May 2025, 07:48tramssirhc wrote: ↑09 May 2025, 06:55Does the contract definitely not refer to a number of days?makingsounds wrote: ↑08 May 2025, 19:27A 25 hour contract postman in our office who currently works 5 days a week wants to maintain his contract but work it over 4 days as he is a primary carer for his elderly & unwell mother.
