Being moved off a signed for duty

Post by gimba »

Howdy

are there any rules as such about signing for a walk, but still being moved to cover others?
Last few weeks they've put me down to cover other walks, even though I have my own signed walks (2 days on one, 2 days on another), we had a re-sign about 4 months ago

Can it come under Operational Issues or whatever? If so, what about them getting someone to come in on their day off, on overtime, to cover the walk I'm signed for, for me to be lumbered elsewhere?

Thanks

Usually only do that at our place if it's a rural that would require someone trained up or something of that nature
They can then claim it's operational presumably.
Must be annoying though

I've had this but is the 'covering' done fairly - are other staff chosen to cover the rounds you have to cover too? Or are you in a minority of
one who can cover those rounds? I challenged it on this basis when other staff were trained on the round too.

At the end of the day, be it you signed for a duty or not, your contract states "As Directed" with operational requirements.

The skill set of other employees is irrelevant.

As long as it is a managers reasonable instruction, not a lot you can do

IMO it's not irrelevant if they're qualified to perform the duty, neither is it reasonable to select the same person to cover every time
and there's no valid reason for others not to take a turn. It's reasonable for someone else to cover that duty also.

I was successful when I found myself in the same situation and challenged it myself.

People seem to forget, even if an employee has signed for a duty, it does not belong to them cart blanche.

As long as it is a reasonable instruction from management.

Will repeat my last statement. Reasonable Instruction with As Directed as a contractual obligation.

You cannot refuse that instruction.

If you feel aggrieved for whatever reason, you submit an official grievance.

I've learn in all my years that if you are moved to another duty and do it very badly and don't complete they never ask you again.... if you complete tuen expect to moved again and again... choice is yours!
