VR offer clarification

Post by makingsounds »

VR has been offered to some CSP staff based on the recent preference exercise on indoor work. They've 2 weeks to sign it or it's withdrawn, but there is a requirement to seek legal advice and have the document signed off by a solicitor and is any offer under £30,000.00 not taxable?
Any clarification or info would be good & can Unionline assist?

Hey MS, in your local area you should be able to make a solicitor appointment and receive the first 30 mins for free (not all solicitors so please check).

That might just be enough time to get all the paperwork checked by them.

Also, ask around as some solicitors specialise in redundancy scenarios.

Best of luck.

What's the offer ? Presumably this should be rolled out nationally, our ex csp guy is really struggling since they put him on a walk, I think he'd be interested as he's only a few years off retiring.

The norm with “compromise agreements” such as this is that the employer — RM here — pays for your independent legal advice, though capped usually at £500 plus Vat. In practice, you pick a local solicitor of your own choosing, take along the compromise agreement, they run through it with you and advise you what legal rights you are compromising in exchange for your pay-off, they ask you to sign it, they then sign the legal adviser certification to confirm they have fully advised you, and they then invoice RM direct. You won’t pay a penny.

Voluntary redundancy (VR) payments up to £30,000 are generally tax-free under UK law. Any amount above that is taxable as income. It's important to seek legal advice before signing, as solicitors ensure you fully understand the terms and protect your rights. Unionline can likely assist with legal advice and document review—it's worth reaching out to confirm their support for this process. Always act promptly as the two-week window is strict! :coolr
