Dear Colleague
Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Election
The NEC met today, Thursday 24th May, and discussed all the candidates for the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party election.
After a full debate the National Executive Council came to the view that it would nominate Alan Johnson for the position of Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.
The ballot will be by a single transferable vote. In such elections voters are expected to vote in order of preference. There are six candidates. The NEC recommended that the membership should vote as follows:
Alan Johnson 1st Preference
Jon Cruddus 2nd Preference
Peter Hain 3rd Preference
In coming to this decision, the NEC took into consideration the responses from candidates and our own internal polling and hard copies of these papers will be circulated through the postal system in the next few days.
Any enquiries on the LTB should be address to the General Secretary's Department quoting the reference GS 14.0
Yours sincerely
W HAYES
General Secretary

Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Election.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

My challenge to you
Dear Friend,
Over the next few days all the candidates for Deputy Leader of the Party will be in touch to tell you what they think. That is not the purpose of this email. I want to know what you think.
I am standing for Deputy Leader of the Labour Party because I want to be a voice for the grassroots, a voice for Labour values, around the Cabinet table as we together decide what our government is going to do. I believe that real leadership means having the humility to listen as well as the courage to act.
My challenge to Labour party members, trade unionists and our supporters is this: don't let this be a contest just about politicians – let it be a contest in which you help shape the future.
Here are some questions:
If we can inspire people to care about poverty and injustice in Africa , why can't we also inspire them to join us in ending poverty at home?
How should we now start the fight to win back every council seat, every seat in Scotland and Wales , and every seat we lost at the General Election?
How can we place as much importance on our children and on how we relate to one another as we do on economic stability?
What's the best way we can encourage more people to put something back into society?
What does putting justice and working with others at the heart of a new foreign policy mean to you?
What does Labour need to do next to overcome inequality and redistribute power and opportunity?
What's your view on these issues or any others that matter to you? What are your priorities for the future of our party and of our country? I would very much like to hear from you. Visit benn4deputy.org/yourvoice to post your ideas or to comment on what other party members have written. I will be replying to your comments in a video podcast which will be broadcast on the site every few days.
If you support my campaign you can register your support at benn4deputy.org/support
Labour politics are in my blood. I have spent my whole life in our movement; as a constituency activist, a trade union official, a local councillor and as an MP. I know that the ideas and commitment of our grassroots members are the greatest assets we have.
I hope to hear from you - and thanks.
Best wishes,
Hilary Benn
P.S. please pass this onto friends in your local party or trade union.
