Is there anyone else being sent out next day with mail returned from previous day, early as soon as clocked in.

Are you being sent out to clear the mail returned from other duties or on your own duty...if you have one?

Just do your hours as your manager sees fit, don’t worry about anything else it’s not worth the hassle. If they want you to scrape bird sh1t off the walls it’s their prerogative, who cares
