Can I be picked off driving . Yes or No?

Post by greynut »

We are going to have out re-pick in a couple of weeks and I think I might be picked off driving.

Can this happen? I have been driving for 6 years receiving the normal driving allowances etc.

I thought there was a skill thing with this?

Normal driving duties are not defined as needing specialist skills under the Way Forward Agreement, so I guess in theory you could be picked off driving if a driving duty is being taken out or someone more senior has been put into your office.

If all duties go `into the pot`then it will be Seniority that determines who gets what. If a person with greater Seniority picks the duty you are on and has the necessary driving `skills/qualifications` then that duty could be picked. I think I am right in saying that if your/that duty has not changed in anyway you could get away with insisting that it is not included in the resign? The Union try to shy away from this one but I think it was part of the SDD revision/Way Forward Agreement? ...........So to answer the question, Yes.

If a job is not changed you will retain it if you want it. That is also in the Way Forward Agreement.

Also isn't there something that if you are to lose an allowance(driving allowance) due to a repick you can keep that allowance for a while.?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Have any of the duties changed in your office or only some? Either way there should be a full repick - can never understnd this elitist s**t about having 'rights' to certain duties.. No wonder the job is so crap these days with that kind of pathetic attitude.

Was there ever something vaguely written down about a 'repick every few years' not that the managemant ever bothered implementing it as it was more hassle for their poor over-worked little bodies..??

Agree with 'slave' im a senior postie and have no qualms about putting my duty in 'the pot' after all thats what seniority is about and in the spirit of the game just that a lot of juinior people who have been placed on a senior mans job don't want to do a harder job. But thats just tough as we did it when we came into r.m so should they. Just shows you what favioritism has done all the bosses 'narks' have been given preference over far more senior posties. This needs to be stopped as it causes friction within the ranks

A re-pick can only occur if your offices has gone through major changes and over 75% of the duties are effected. If your duty is unchanged you can opt out of a re-pick
all this is in the Way Forward Agreement

I only asked if I could be picked off of driving. I had heard from some people that driving duties were 'protected' or something like that if you had received a driving allowance for over 3 years. I was trying to clear this up. I wasn t expecting you do start ranting about 'elitist s**t'? If my job is so 'elitist' how comes we have been short of drivers in our office for over 6 years. But now the works going to get harder these same bods that didn t want to know for 6 years are thinkng about it. f**k me read the question and get off your f***ing high horse.

driving duties are ringfenced, they do not go into a resign, as under mtsf agreement, due to driving allowance being pensionable, unless you volunteer to put driving duty in then you lose your allowance, check out the mtsf agreement under pensionable pay. ask your rep for copy.

This is spot on :Applause our driving duties have been ringfenced for years now along with our Ex p.h.g. jobs. The only way they can loose them is through there own choice or the duty is lost through a revision.
