Sick/Fit note

Post by norris9 »

I have just got a fit note back from my doctor which states 'fit for work', but I should 'avoid lifting and walking long distances'....

That's the basis of this job....

If I took the fit note to work, wouldn't the manager have no option from a health and safety standpoint, but to sign me off work for the duration the doctor has put on the note?

The problem with light duties is they also cause me back pain. Standing or sitting for hours is not good for my back, nor is reaching. I also find that when at a frame you tend to arch your back to sort mail into slots that are lower down.

To be honest - I'd rather be out on my round than be sitting or standing still for hours.

I don't know if 'light duties' are a black and white thing or not.... ie. is it simply defined as staying in the office and sorting?....

As thinking about it - it would be best for me if I did things that kept me moving, but didn't include excessive walking or lifting.

I meant to put , alter hrs for a bit  I think maybe your Dr could be more helpful, I'd go back and really try to get him to understand your predicament. Being in this type of job dosnt really allow for much inbetween what we do. My manager was pretty good with me setting out what I could do even starting on just 4 hrs a day. Good luck
