Prepping - is this allowed?

Post by norris9 »

As we know - the revisions have messed everything up, I always have a massive backlog of crates of mail sitting around my frame.

Our managers quite often like for us to take everything in our frames out with us even though it's impossible to complete in our time. I have no idea why they do this as I am bringing a lot of mail back and have to take time the next day to put it back in the frame creating more backlog. I guess they do this as they hope it will make us stay out and complete it all, as well as puts us posties in a situation where we come back and have to tell them we didn't complete, this is where they like to whine at us to try to guilt trip us into staying out next time.

To get around this I am wondering if it's ok to simply leave a row of my frame empty. Any mail that's for the top row for example - I put to one side and will put this mail in the frame the following day. This is not the only mail that would be put to the side, there is always such a backlog that mail from the frame in general has to be left behind in boxes under the frame as there is simply no time to sort it all.

Is this ok to do? - seeing as whatever happens mail has to be left behind, I would have thought it is allowed. This way I can just focus on the 5 other rows of my frame and 1 row will just have to be sacrificed each day.

Also, wouldn't it help the managers out? - If I cleared everything else they could mark it down as a completed round as I'd have left a row empty instead of leaving it in the frame or bringing it back.

They like you to take it all out so they can tick a box to say no job has failed, it's fraud plain and simple. Our managers told us to do it but they're seeming to get fed up with it now and we just leave half in the fitting.

You should really leave behind what you feel you can't complete. Next day, rotate to the roads you didn't complete. Shows the intellect of the managers they're recruiting these days

These days I reckon that they're just following the orders given to them from above and are probably not allowed to do anything else or make any other choice

but they fail as soon as posties bring it back, so the box has to be unticked.

My round is only going to get more and more of a backlog with no day off cover, and therefore no annual leave cover, and no sick cover. As a part-timer, my round rarely has any prep work done, so I am arriving to an empty frame. On top of this - they like to move me to cover other rounds every few weeks for a day or 2 making my backlog even worse, whilst other people who are full-timers and therefore more up-to-date than me, never get moved.

It's a mess.

Once the managers have a clear office they dont take bringing it back into account, it's part of the reason delivery is fooked up at the moment, some managers weve had genuinely have no idea how delivery works, and yes it's a mess

They want it taken out so they can mislead the higher managers/board/public about how much is really failing.
Hence why the official report about failing offices has 12-15 on it a day when in reality that should be in its hundreds…

Ask your manager how they feel about it.

Do as instructed ,I know it creates more backlog stress and is very counterproductive but end of the day you are paid for x amount of hours.
Management are just box tickers pleasing upper management and we are bottom of the run.
Don’t rush round, don’t take the piss and remember your PDA is your friend logging your productivity.

Correct, leave in what you know you can not complete. It is the managers responsibility to cover that part of the duty on that day.

They don't even try now though.

We're the same, management tell us to take everything out with us. The only frames in the office that have mail left in them are the duties that aren't covered and will Fail.

Management know that we're not going to complete every duty, but there's still Posties rushing around "Making it Work", for whatever reason. Some have little deals on the side that suit them and seriously some have mental health issues, that can't deal with change and stress over any changes. So in our office we're actually managing to deliver about 79% of mail which I suppose is good enough for RM. :hmmmm

They also argue that if there's a Surprise Audit they'll get into trouble if mail's left behind, I call BS we've NEVER had a surprise Audit .... like others I believe it's just so Managers can lie and say everything's being delivered. Once we return there's no sign of any Manager and nothings said ..... unless you bought TRACKED Back! :no no

Concerning your problem with throwing off undelivered mail the following day: We have to record how many Delivery Points (DP) we haven't deliverd to that day. Area have told us that if RM what this level of reporting they have to resource it, be that having late shift/collections throw it off or the PHG. RM don't want to do that so we return to the office with enough time to throw that back in (approx 20 mins).

In theory this reporting should be a good thing, I know it is reported up the chain because our Area Rep has confirmed it. It should indicate which duties are capable of being done, and which are too big. Come the next Revision in about 6 months I wouldn't expect to see those Big duties picking up any extra DPs. Our Management seem to realising that the more indoor work you give people the less time they've got to deliver mail outdoors. :cuppa

Dies it really matter what local management think in any type of office any more? It seems like these days local management just implement whatever they're ordered to implement by higher up, even if they know what what they're being ordered to implement will f**k the office up

I suppose there is a diffeerence between burying your head in the sand and actually "Believing" everything's working ok

And knowing you're bullshitting everyone but that's what you've been told to do by your Boss? I know it's the same end result but there is a difference. :cuppa
