Just been handed a/l request forms for year 2023/24

Got 2 weeks to get them in

Summer 2022 isn't even over! Ffs

Not sure how I'm expected to plan ahead up to 18 months.

Is this universal or just local

Yes and hello and welcome to the unique and dysfunctional world of Royal Mail.

They'll tell you that they have to have your holiday dates so far in advance so that they plan and provide a full and efficient staffing rota for the next year etc.

In reality what will happen in a year's time is they'll shuffle up to your frame on the Friday before your van share partner flies off to Greece and inform you that they've got no one to cover their absence and you'll be on your own...doing one side of the duty one day (plus all the tracked, oversized and specials from the other) and the other side the next (plus all the tracked, oversized and specials from the other).

A week later your van share partner will return, tanned and relaxed, whilst you will be stressed as s**t and knackered from taking out two days worth of mail every day he was gone.

I hate the holiday system we have, I've been a postie since 1/2/21, my wife's in education, I can't get any time off when she can, she had 5 and a half weeks in Spain with friends whilst I was stuck here shovelling s&£t for RM!

They always come up with this “operational needs” bollocks. Surely every business in the land has operational needs not just RM, yet staff in these other places of work can book A/L with little if any notice & take random days off pretty much as needed.
