Business plan to save hours.

Post by dounome »

Hi Guys n Gals
I was wondering if any of you people with a bit more knowledge than myself, know if my DOM can reduce 3 full time town duties to 30 hours. He has been tasked with saving yet another 36 hours from our very small office and his plan is to reduce 2 full time walks down to 30 hours and also reduce a FT floater duty down to 30 hrs. These walks are normal 3.5 hour delivery. I thought that you couldnt reduce full time duties unless they became vacant due to retirals or people leaving.
Also he plans to make these walks take on an one hour extra of delivery which makes them a 4.5 hour delivery.

As far as I understand it he can cut the duties hours down but not the Posties hours down. I will research and post what I can find. If anyone else can do the same please do so.

Question are you a rural office or town/urban if you are town/urban 3.5 hour max deliviery span has he looked at part time manager's?. He will only have to save half of the hour's at the rate they are on!. :dance

I was under the impression that we still do not recognise their local business savings plans. Legally he cant reduce your contractual hours, and last year in our area we went out over RM turning F/T duties into P/T. Your Rep needs to tell him to get stuffed!

bye downs

Post by vigilante »

dom can only suggest to reps to offer anyone of a certain age a bye down from 40 to 30 hours but the resulting loss of ips will have to be absorbed within office!!!!
if the 4.5 delivey he proposes is a town round then he should'nt be in the post he is in!!!!
The rep has got to be hard and say you are trying to take the piss!

dont know what constitutes a town/urban but we have 6 full time town walks, 5 rural deliveries and full time floaters reserves to cover these for holidays etc.

More creative accounting from RM!

Less hours on paper but wage bill remains the same!

As therer is no rep the DOM should be consulting with your ADR who will either agree or disagre. In the case of the latter the formal disagreement process then comes into play and a senior manager will thrash it out with your ADR.

Remember contracted hours of any individual can not be changed with out consent.

business plan

Post by vigilante »

The great business plan!
There comes a time, as you all know, that an office can give no more!!
IPS suffers and the more part-timers that are employed makes full-timers work there ass off further to cover for it.
I myself am sick of working like a slave to cover for cost cutting frenzies.
This is a seperate issue to the pay and modernisation agreement but at the same time ironically, how can it not effect it!!
I have entered stage 1 disagreement to savings as we have got nothing left apart from evr's to give!! BUT-----we CANNOT absorb anymore IPS!!!
Where are you going to go RM???
Yes sequencing maybe coming in but we will fight you until then!!

8. Changing terms and conditions of employment

Many employers think they can change terms and conditions of employment by giving (say four weeks) prior written notice. But it is a centuries old legal principle that a contract can only be changed by a negotiated agreement. So giving notice of change can only work legally in two cases. First, where the matter in question is outside the contract (such as a discretionary benefit-in-kind) or, second, where the contract expressly allows it to be changed by the employer by this method. If none of these routes is open to the employer, it can always serve the correct notice to terminate the contract, but that then counts as a “dismissalâ€

When ever we've had to cut hours, we generally have some that would like to do less hours, if so we try and get them a buy down type thing, we've just had 8 or 9 do this, some now work a week about, so they now officially work 24 hours, and a couple also dropped down to 30 hours, most of the people who did this, have worked for RM 15 years plus, and got between £10000 and £15000, and they just have to do 2 years and then they can bugger off, and of course they can also do OT if its available.

The best thing is some of these people are over 60, so they get their pension as well!

Can I ask, who is doing the work that the people who had a buy down of hours no longer do? :hmmmm
