In our office a rural duty is 4.5 hours as to the town posties 3.5 hours. I am starting to think that there is no definite time set for rurals as others who have posted about rurals have mentioned 4.5, 5 & even 6 hours. There must be something written down not only about length but as to what constitutes a rural. In our office a rural is anywhere a postie uses a van to go to a small town & gets out and walks round or to 60 plus miles of driving round farms.
Also I do not know why town posties have 1 hour less delivery time. Is it because they are walking continually as opposed to a rural in a van?

There is no upper limit on rural duties this was given away by our union at SDD, so today it was just a normal day and yet it took me 5hrs 45mins today.

if any rural duty has an element of a walk (such as a housing estate) then the 3 30mins apply. If no walk then it's the increased level and can be up to iirc 5hrs but no more if you are indeed doing a housing estate then it's 3 30 no more get hold of your area rep asap

remember rural dutys are due only untill 3:00 pm after which they break the regulated delivery times 2:00 pm for town 3:00 pm for rural

Can you supply any paperwork on that because ALL the rurals in my DO have housing estates attached to them.
