Nights...
Wonder if I have grounds for a grievance here...I was on Nights in a delivery office for over 3 years. The night shifts were removed from here in June 2006.All the staff are currently receiving their protected shift allowance. However, since then there has been a regular night shift brought in on O/T.This usually consists of the same 5 or 6 people, none of which were on nights before.Just after last years Industrial action, the nights PHG was asked to get a crew in for that night by the DOM.He was told to only get people "who helped me out" and the DOM mentioned names of people who broke the strike.Any other names of active IA posties were met with "No"..These are the same people who are coming in on nights O/T still..it is not being shared around, despite me bringing it up in every WTL,and why was nights removed when a night operation is obviously still needed..I need answers before June 2009 when I lose £70 per week and obviously cant stay at Royal Mail

Re: Nights...
does the office have an overtime procedure that allows those on the least hours to be brought in first? if not you need to raise with the rep why not.Sparx71 wrote:Wonder if I have grounds for a grievance here...I was on Nights in a delivery office for over 3 years.
If management are ignoring procedure then put in a grievance for loss of earnings.
No longer should you put up with management "cherry picking".
Good luck.

procedure?
I have never heard of this procedure. Will ask our rep.All that happens is the main SC*B (who we have nicknamed Roland, cos he's the office Rat) is asked to get a crew in,and he just gets his fellow SC*Bs.But the first time it was sanctioned by the DOM,as mentioned in my first post

Re: procedure?
Put in grievance with the help of your rep stating that you are being discriminated against because you took part in legal strike action. Wait 30 days and lodge an ET1 (employment tribunal form) for detriment to trade union activities. This should jolt them into a more fair allocation!!!Sparx71 wrote:I have never heard of this procedure. Will ask our rep.All that happens is the main SC*B (who we have nicknamed Roland, cos he's the office Rat) is asked to get a crew in,and he just gets his fellow SC*Bs.But the first time it was sanctioned by the DOM,as mentioned in my first post

In many offices overtime is allocated using an aggregate system which would have to be run by someone both management and colleagues can trust.
Basically on January 1st everyone starts at zero and overtime goes on seniority, the list is updated weekly and those with the lowest total will be asked first and those with the highest last,if two or more people have the same total the most senior gets first choice.
The person running the list usually gives out the overtime during I.P.S.

Firstly if the shift is 'regular' as you say it should be on Scheduled Attendance rate and not O/T rate. Or even part of someones shift.
Secondly if you feel you, or others are being discriminated against simply because of taking (legal) industrial action I would consider a grievance procedure.
Speak to your area rep as soon as.
