RESIGN/DDA/SENIORITY?

IF DELIVERY OFFICER COMES UNDER DDA DUE TO LONG TERM HEALTH PROBLEM, DOES THIS EFFECT SENIORITY IN SIGNING FOR A DUTY OR MAKE ANY PROVISION FOR TYPE OF DUTY THAT SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO SAID INDIVIDUAL, ADVICE APPRECIATED/

In our office it doesnt affect your seniority but it does limit you to signing for dda suitable duties

Before there is a re-pick in an office all the people who are considered covered by the DDA will have their situation looked at.

More often than not the duty they are on has been adjusted to meet their own personal needs, therefore that duty would not go into the re-pick and they would just stay on that duty.

So most of the time it would not be an issue.

seniority is the only way,the only people who would object are low service people or gaffers narks

I am a low service Postie - just 5 years in and I fully support seniority and just in case you think I am young I have already seen the wrong side of 40 so doubt I will ever get any of the benefits of this system. Despite it being an imperfect system it is one that is generally less open to abuse unlike Manager Preference if it was ever accepted.

Your walk should be adjusted to meet your needs if you are covered under the D.D.A. Failure to do so would have Royal Mail breaking the law. That dont mean that they wont however, they will drag thier heels over any adjustments you need. Get you Union Rep to look into it. Also you local enviromental health officer would be able to help you and citizens advice. Under any repick or pegasus review all staff covered nder D.D.A. should get walks structured for bthem first, prior to the regular seniority selection.

Which doesn't mean they can pick a nice one and have it shortened ! In our office we have a couple of people with disabilities who have walks that are convenient for them and their medical requirements - these walks are "ringfenced" in a repick situation to protect their interests and everybody is happy with that arrangement - they would not however be allowed to select another walk and then have it adjusted as they are deemed to have had their special needs satisfied.

Quite right but thats what should happen prior to a review. What happens to posties, who through time come under the D.D.A.? Is the predicament many an office finds its self in. By law R.M. have to make adjustments to their walk. This can seriously create allsorts of carless talk and back stabbing amongst the people you work along side.

This will only happen because of poor management, if the managers do their job properly (and make sure the colleagues know way) then there will be no problems but alas most managers are completely useless.
