Holiday Entitlement arrangements for part-timers

Post by weara »

I have a 30hour contract and work every week 5days x 6hour shifts.
When I was given to sign up for my 22,5 days they asked me to sign for 5days every week, so basically 4 weeks a year (+2,5 days).
Full timers work 7,5 hours a day, so my hours account for 4 (full time days a week - 4 x 7,5hours = 30)
On my previous holidays I was paid for the 30 hours of my contract, not 5 full time days.
My question is, are they cheating me off a week of holidays per year the way they calculate it?
Because either they should allow me to use my holiday 4 days a week- amounting to 5 weeks a year (+2,5 days) or at least if they make me take 5 days a week, they should pay me for 5 full days, not part-time days.
To me it just doesn't add up.
Considering the way it works in other work places; if for example I had a 16hour contract, and I was doing 4 day shifts of 4 hours, when it came to holidays, every holiday week I would only be using 2 days, because 8hours is their daily shift (and 2x8=16)

But you're a Part Timer, 5 days at 6 hours -your holiday hours debited account for your contracted daily working hours - not a FT'ers.
The FT contract hours have nothing to do with how your holiday hours are accounted for.

I'm sort of assuming from your enquiry that you might work up to FT hours on OT. If you want to book your holiday
based on FT hours that you might work on OT you'd find you'd get even less holiday days off - you wouldn't want that - you wouldn't get a 'free' days
holiday for each week of holiday you book that you seem to be suggesting you should get. Each week of holiday would cost you 38 hours - not 30!

If you are working FT hours on OT but only getting paid 30hrs for your holiday, you need to stick in a holiday pay claim.

I think your question was answered in the Blue Shirts forum.

When you start Royal Mail you are entitled to holidays based on Length of service and contract hours. Holiday entitlement is based on a five day week also so you are entitled to 30 hours over 5 days for 22.5 days so that,s 5x6hr days for 22.5 days so your annual leave entitlement is 135 hours per year.

While on Annual leave you will only get your contract hours paid. So if you take a weeks leave you will get 30hrs paid.

If you change your hours to say 4 days at 7.5 hours the it will still cost you 30 hours to take a weeks leave and 7.5 hours to take a day off

If you're working over your contracted hrs regularly then please see this forum, this goes for all of you reading this as well...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

No, bank holidays are not included in the 22.5 days.
They are included in the 28 days statutory annual leave.
If you work a 5 day week you are entitled to 8 bank holidays.
On start-up your leave entitlement is therefore 30.5 days = 2.5 days above the statutory minimum.
All leave is booked in hours.
