Hi. My question is: how long before should I know when is my rest day?
I am working for RM 4 years Full time and I have just been transferred to a new office. Managers told me that my rest days wont be rotating like they used to as this office has different standards. I am founding out about my rest day the last day of the week which is Saturday. Most of them are tuesday off or another random day. Managers told me it is because I am covering the other duties and there is no chance for me to sign for the walk. The union now talked to the managers and I've been told I will know 2 weeks in advance. Is this right? how long before should I know when is my rest day?

This really pisses me off!!! I’m not actually affected by it as I have the same day off every week but I really feel for the reserves who have to wait until Friday pm or Saturday am to find out what they’re doing and what day off they have the following week. If they do have the audacity to ask the tard in charge of duties during the week before he says “ I can’t tell you as it may yet change”. Oh and he knows his day off as it’s the same every week. Bang out of order!!!

how long before should I know when is my rest day?
The union told me they will try to help me so I could know 2 weeks in advance but is this right? I am full time and my rest days should be rotating! Ive asked to sign for any duty and they told me it is impossible for me to do so. There are other people who are working on the same duty for years and the could plan their life. I think this is not the way should be. I am currently waiting fo the union to help me but if I get no help I will take further actions. The reason I am asking for help is that I have read my fulltime contract and it does not says about rotating days or anything else about rest days. Also I was trying to find out what is the rule for it. Maybe it is written somewhere in the handbook. I have already called HR and Union but they do not know. Please help. Lets sort this out once and for all!

There is a document "Royal Mail & CWU Nationally Agreed Guidelines Covering Annual Leave/Resourcing" in the following thread:
https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... al#p864780" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
which appears to date from 2016 which has various statements in it (see the downloadable file on the thread):
two weeks prior to events. As 'people' are a resource, that weekly resource meeting should therefore be able
to forecast what people are doing on what day and thereby giving you two weeks notification of your day off.
The proviso to this of course is that do RM Managers come under the description of 'sensible people'..........?

as well as the other common complaint re personnel resourcing/leave:• To provide people with advanced notice of what work they will be expected to do on a daily and weekly basis allowing people to better plan their work/life balance.
But to provide some sort of answer to your query:• To provide a way for people to take odd days of leave taking into account special and religious events.
Most sensible people would therefore believe that from the Weekly Resourcing Meeting that resources are allocatedWeekly Resourcing Meeting Principles......
2 week plan - Review available resource and forecasted workload and build Detailed Resource Plan for 2 weeks ahead.
Communicate – ensure all agreed resource decisions are communicated and displayed for the next 2 weeks as a minimum
two weeks prior to events. As 'people' are a resource, that weekly resource meeting should therefore be able
to forecast what people are doing on what day and thereby giving you two weeks notification of your day off.

If a delivery office is fully staffed with no long term sick it should be possible to have the rota sheets available to view for the whole office for up to ten weeks ahead. So it should be possible for you to find out which are your days off quite far in advance even if you do not have the standard rotating day off.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Your rest day should be Saturday and if you're allowed to have 1 extra day off every month should be Friday having at least two weeks' notice.XXYYZZ321 wrote:What about the long weekends?
