How many deliveries should 1 guy have to learn ?

I've been working at my current office for almost two and a half years. I'm currently working as a leave reserve. The link i cover has 5 deliveries, and therefore 7 posties (5 on their respective deliveries, 1 daily floater, and myself). Over the past two and a half years i've been taught on 10 deliveries.

I was wondering if there was such a thing as a limit to how many deliveries 1 postman has to learn ?

with re picks and RM constant tinkering the job and walks are constantly changing so the short answer is you will always be learning new walks and even prep walks instead of sorting whether you know the frame or not.

Never heard of a limit of how many walks someone should learn but the more walks each person in an office knows the better i think as it should help on IPS and when resigns come along.

When I first started I was a floater for my section and I did all 26 duties (plus a few off section) so no I don't think there is a limit.

With the Mobility clause Royal Mail is bringing in it could be anything up to 100,000 walks !

I do 14 out of the 17 duties in my office and when the DOM told me i was going to learn another i said 14 was enough so never had to do it.

I've done 35 out of the 36 in my office.

Oh, and I wasn't taught or trained on any of them, just shown a out of date frame and muddled through as best as I could.

It is stressful when you dont know the frame as you are looking all over the place for the numbers and streets etc, and they expect you till have it all prep in as well as your own walk!!!!

no set limits depends on how much you piss your dom off we have 28 rural deliveries and i know 4 of em and thats 3 too many i get moved off my round all the time to cover sick and annual leave and were so short staffed most of the guys get moved about when u work ina rural office a lot of knowledge is definatly not a good thing some of the guys have been there 20 years and only know 1 job others have been there only a few years and know lots

ive been a reserve for a year now, i think i have been on around 40 out of the 60 in my office! somthing different every week! i don't partically like bein thrown bout every where but its what ive gota do for a while!!

I don't mind, actually, as long as they pay me any extended time, which, to be fair, they always have.

in my old DO i did the lot (52) and know them all, so when it came to overtime i could run them up to sute me and do 2 rounds in 1. now work in a MC and that is money for old rope, no pressure just sign on do your bit then sign off and go home, Managers WILL NOT chalange ppl who are not doing their bit but they WILL pick on a willing horse. why work your but off on the OPL when you know the I MPs ? L S Ms are done they are sent to help you out ( a round 25/30 ) staff.
