I presume what you want to do is go from full time to less than full time hours?

From a union perspective those hours will be lost from the unit.
A union's job is to protect those hours not gleefully give them away.

It is muddled thinking but there is a certain logic to it.

I know of two instances where colleagues (one over 65 & one a female parent) have been granted a reduction in days/hours.
However two others (over 65) have been denied on initial request!!

Note; I do not know if all used the official policy, although I informed the latter the option to apply for flexible working is available.

For that to happen you would have to believe the union gives a rat's arse about improving the contracts of less than full time members.

I would be interested if you have applied via the flexible working policy in which you can appeal the decision if negative.
