Opting out of driving

I'm a reserve and cover 14 duties some of them are driving ones just wondered if anyone knew if you can opted out of driving as i'm not to keen on it and there is no driving allowance anymore so no benefit to it.

There are a couple of guys in my office that do not hold licenses and when it's come down to revisions it is aways taken into account that they do not drive.

You could always try not bringing in your driving license but it hasn't worked for me yet (and neither has all the little accidents I've had)

The Dom is asking for the yearly check on licenses at the mo so thought i'd try my luck.

The license checks are supposed to be every 6months but I've only brought mine in once in 5 years so good luck.

It must be 6 months, i thought it came round rather quick,my DOM is very anal about these sort of thing by the book man.

was told this very day that your licence is scaned /or photo copied ? but i'm sure this is an illegal thing for r.m to be doing ?
anyone out there that knows if it is in fact legal for them to do this without your permision

Sorry but according to this website its legal and in fact they say taking a photocopy is probably not enough.

There is no benefit to photocopying it as the following day you could be caught speeding so the photocopied license is out of date. I dont understand why in this day and age with permission from the drivers it's not possible for Royal Mail to check staffs licenses on line. It will be much easier for all parties.

I don't let my license out of my sight, in our office they just check to see if it's still legal, and fill info in by hand.
What we need to keep an eye on is if they start shoving it on a computer, then there will be different rules etc.

Then burn a disc with all our details on and post it via TNT

There is not as far as I know any obligation to drive for Royal Mail, it is not a pre-requisite for employment. If you chose a duty that covers a driving duty then I can't see any way you could refuse. Mind you that would also ensure you did not do any overtime where you had to drive, such as taking parcels or collections on SA.

We stopped Management taking photocopies of our licenses. If this fell into the wrong hands it could be used to hire vehicles etc against your name so they do a visual check now every 6 months and write down anything they need. You then sign to say you have no outside jobs and away you go.

DOM when was the last time you done your checks?

i used to be a Town floater with no driving then got bumped onto reserve as they had to use that duty for a guy that was not allowed to drive anymore.
