Notice of change of duty

Changes are happening in our office as we have no full time leave reserves in the office, the changes are to move the 3 least senior full timers from their duties and make them the 3 full time leave reserves.

How much notice has to be given to the current duty holders?

Just get the HR department to advertise for some more staff. There are between 1.5 & 2 million people unemployed in the UK so they should be able to find a few people.

In law, all it has to be is "a reasonable notice period". However, within RM people quote 28 days, in reality, its somewhere in between. However, get in touch with the rep, or area rep if you are in the Union. ACAS if not.

We are all postmen/woman at the end of the day 28 days notice is more than some get but if it is function specific or a family friendly issue then you need your rep. At the end of the day the duty is Royal Mails to decide what allocation of hours if indeed any hours!

it depends upon if there was two full timers together and if so what was the staffing ratio but it seams these days just cut hours and hope blame if it is not feasible in the time allowed strategy!

Full Timers will prep the duties and part timers will take the duties which are part time duties with full timers on them, we have no ft leave reserves due to an office revision that was incorrectly managed 7 years ago

If these current FT duties will be now covered by PT staff, then I presume these will become PT duties too. AS Gaz97 said this means hours are being taken out of your office. If this is due to lack of reserves, then why not make up the contracts of the senior PT's to FT reserves or flex up the PT staff when needed.

They are increasing the contracts of PT staff from 25hrs to 32hrs, this concerns 7 PT staff so argument is that they are putting 49 hrs into office, plus an extra FT contract to cover the late locker role which has always been on overtime
