Bank holidays

My day off was Christmas Day so does the usual rule apply that we have a choice of day off that week or pay or lieu day? Our manager says it has to be a lieu day. Also said that lieu days added for bank holidays you aren’t entitled to take that same year, they should be carried over to the following year and it’s a managers discretion to let you take them in the same year. Thanks for any advice.

I had boxing day off as my day off as did all reserves and part timers in my office and I see the same situation for next week on Tuesday. I requested payment for the day as its impossible to get a day off in my office and was told no cant be paid, must be a day in lieu. My union rep was unsure but seemed to think if u requested payment for the holiday it shudnt be an issue. It was. Bust your balls all Christmas and shafted straight away.

You can be paid, I’ve been given Tuesday next week off, asked for the money and will get that instead.

There is no issue, and can’t be argued.

From August 2017

Bank and public holidays
In Royal Mail:
• If a bank holiday falls on a day you would normally work, you take the day off.
• If your rest day falls on a bank holiday, your manager will check if workload allows for you to have
another day off that week.
• If you are unable to take another day off, you can either:
 add the day to your annual holiday entitlement; or
 take the excess hours paid as overtime. This will be paid at the Monday to Saturday overtime rate

Get your rep on the Job. The Royal Mail agreements states you can carry over leave providing it's acceptable to both sides.

They're storing up a massive problem. My back of a fag packet calculation leads me to believe that RM owe the staff tens of millions of pounds in lieu day and carry over days. And they're doing it on purpose. I read a post on here recently where a staff member couldn't get lieu days but could take the time unpaid. All to make the profits look better at end of year. I'll bet you those millions of pounds are not on the liability sheet though.

No matter how you dress it up you are still owed those days??

What if you are on holiday and a bank holiday falls within that week, can you still ask for the money instead.

No.
If you've booked a week of annual leave that includes a bank holiday you will only use 4 days annual leave. The PSP system automatically does this when you book the annual leave into the system.
