PENSIONS POSTCARD

This is what my branch and neighbouring region have sent out to every members home address. Not sure if it hasn't been posted already Taking advantage of the FREEPOST address RM are using for the consultation. I'm not sure now to attach PDF or i would have put that on here so you can see how it looks.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have a say on the future of my pension. I have contributed to the
scheme for a number of years and I am concerned with the proposed changes.

You have asked me to respond to your proposals and I want to formally register my disappointment at Royal
Mail’s pension plan changes. Additionally I want make sure you take my views into consideration.
For myself and many of my colleagues entrance into our pension scheme was compulsory and the trust deed
guaranteed that you, my employer, would make good any deficit.

To be absolutely clear I want you to record how my preference is to keep the existing final salary scheme
open as it is. However, if there needs to be a change then, I expect that any adjustment you propose
significantly improves my pension, unlike the changes put forward. Any proposed change need to Include:

.. Indexation linked to earnings. NOT R.P.I.
.. The ability, if necessary, to pay additional contributions. (Enabling me to retire at 60)
.. The removal of the lower earnings deduction (£3,328)
.. Making all my pay pensionable
.. Allowing all new entrants the right to join the scheme. ( The vast majority of experts agree that
closing the scheme does nothing to reduce the deficit).

In sharing my opinions with you I note that senior Royal Mail mangers have had their own pension scheme
improved. Including an increase to the employer’s contribution. With this in mind I would expect similar
respect for my future pension provision.

In conclusion, your current proposals are unacceptable and I expect you to negotiate with the CWU on any
pension reforms. Any final agreement must be subject to a binding ballot of the members in the scheme.

Or you could just sit back, criticise, moan, do nothing and then act like a hero when things go wrong. Really big that approach

You could do all those things and bury them in a blizzard of paper protests ,but none are heroic and none will shake their foundations or sway their course.

Point being is the only way to gain influence is to cost them money, make it cost more than it's worth. We are not dealing with idealists,they are pragmatists and greedy ones.

Fight the good fight LJ and allpower to your elbow,got my support but lets not kid ourselves or misdirect our energy with bits of paper. The 'oh well we did what we could ,we wrote a letter and still lost' approach is not going to move the mountain,and well you know it

I agree that the position taken originally at the start of the process by the EC has weakened our hand but if the only thing that the postcards / letters does is re-mobilise and re-focus members ahead of another battle then it would have been a success.

Know what your attempting Lovejoy and truly admire your steadfast ,stoical resolve, again you have my full support . but given we are on downtime on this site perhaps a frank debate would be usefull .I'm just a lowly grunt ,but there ain't too many listening so what harm could it do?
