training newbies

Hi, no you cant be held responsible if the new postie makes a mistake and you trained them, moreso the case as your not a trainer anyway. Happens in our office all the time. Im not sure if you can refuse, i would ask union.

Do you have trainers? If not apply and you should get an extra increment, in either case ask for training money whilst training.

You can't be held responsible for someone elses' shortcomings.

Is it just puppy walking I don't mind that as after the 1st day, if they have anything about them, you can split the walk down and get done very quickly. What I do as well is try to get them to carry the bag most of them time, this is to get them used to the weight, but I do most of the deliveries as I have been doing it longer.

If they struggle the first couple of days I will take the bag off them. I had one lad who I did this with and I was faster with a full bag over my shoulder than he was carrying a bundle . He stayed though and is fast enough to get a round done on time now, but he doesn't sprint round like some newbies tend to.

I used to prep it, then give them the first bag at the first drop, drive along at the side of them with the heater and radio on.

Wpc"s are there to train thats what they are paid extra £30 a week for i"m asked quite often but allways refuse as once i said yes if i was getting paid for it manager said no wee already pay a trainer a said well what are you asking me for. As i"m on rural duty trainer in our office does not know my duty so unless someone trains him not many people will get to no my duty this is good because those that do know the duty will not train for the same reason as above. manager should be changing tack me think something for nothing a dont think so and am no flexible either.

Im the WPC for our office and this week we had 2 new entrants starting.Now im good but 2 at once on 2 different walks is even out of my league.So another colleague takes one,trains them and gets the allowance(£30) as well Not to sure how long he will get it for Will ask our Dom next week.

You don't have to accept the responsibility, but I would take it as a compliment to your perceived ability and ask for the training allowance that goes with it. It may not be the amount that the actual Workplace Coaches get but there has always been an allowance payable for trainers to cover loss of O/T etc.

Generally - because you are off the IPS and sharing the delivery it means a slightly earlier finish and you do get time for a fag whilst watching the newbie fall over kids bikes on garden paths and trap their fingers in letterboxes - all in all a pleasant day out.

our trainer was bragging about his 30 quid until he was informed he would lose his early shift allowance because of this.trains everyone and only 15 quid better off

You certainly know how to hurt someone melter - I have had lots of training in my time at RM - some of it specialised, but now I feel like my knuckles are dragging on the floor and have suddenly acquired a taste for bananas - and I do mean for eating, I worry now that I may be pensioned off to a petting zoo when my usefulness is done - which may not be too far away now we have ubermensch doing the job.

Here is something that bothers me with WPC, when we had new starters the person doing the round trained them got payed for doing that, now we pay a WPC £30 a week even if he is not training, does that make sense?

Our WPC has maybe done 4 weeks training in 6mths! also he goes on rounds although he knows them hasn't done them in years and as we all know they change!

to me a total waste of time, get the person doing the round to train them pay them for that, no need to pay somebody for doing nowt ! well apart from dozy crozy!

only two people that went for it were the two worst in the office, had to laugh, the poor DIM what a choice!
