Executive action or not?

Post by prowler »

Oh well, now that the xmas pressure period is over, we're back to the pre-xmas routine of drivers being rounded up and assigned part walks to deliver on top of their normal duties.OK, not many parcels to deliver so there is scope for this.Although walkholders with not a lot of mail are strolling out the door as usual ie. early finish!
I'll not go into the unfairness of this, but is this not executive action?
I understood when this (crap) agreement was accepted, 'flexibility' was down to local agreement ie. who does what, how much and when.
Without any agreement, what is acceptable, as we are being told and not negotiated with?
Suspension is being threatened if you refuse. So what has happened to the spirit of this agreement and has this whole thing been a sham for RM to bulldoze their proposals through anyway.
I would be glad to hear from any CWU reps with regard to this situation - ours is on holiday!
When the parcels build up again, they will be lapsed and the same thing done.
I have to say I have now totally given up on this union and will be quiting unless we get some better representation in the workplace.

Dear Colleague

Pay and Modernisation Agreement – Phase 3 Trials

Meetings have been held over the last week to discuss how we are going to jointly deploy the various aspects of the Pay and Modernisation Agreement. One of the more pressing issues was the selection of the appropriate offices for the Phase 3 Trials which need to be progressed and concluded by Friday 4th January 2008.

The business have advised us of the full list of offices suggested by their Area General Manager’s (copy attached) but it has been fully accepted that the final selection should be discussed and agreed between the Divisional Representatives and AGM’s. Divisional Representatives will therefore be arranging a meeting with the AGM’s to carry out this process as soon as possible to enable the above agreed timescale to be met.

Branches/Representatives will be aware that 4 trial offices in each Area are due to be included in the trial but it has been emphasised by the National Parties that productive trials must take priority over achieving the number of offices. The most important selection criteria is therefore offices where there is a willingness of all parties to participate so that a constructive approach will be taken from the start and there is a real prospect of worthwhile results.

At present the selection of the sites is all that we have asked the Divisional Reps/Areas to concentrate on, further details regarding the trial process/timetable itself will be circulated in due course.

Any enquiries to Dave Ward’s department, quoting reference 60000

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward

Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

Dear Colleague

PAY AND MODERNISATION AGREEMENT – NEW WAYS OF WORKING/ FLEXIBILITY TRIALS

Further to LTB 940/07 circulated to Branches on the 22nd October 2007 in respect of the above.

A number of representatives have informed CWU Headquarters that local and area managers are advising them that their particular office/Unit will be taking part in the trials detailed within the Pay and Modernisation Agreement. The purpose of this LTB is to confirm to Branches/Representatives that no discussions have taken place with the National Union regarding the location of the trial sites and no decision will be made until the agreement has been endorsed by a ballot of the unions membership.

In view of the statements made by management in these areas it is clearly important that the unions position as detailed above is clarified to management if representatives are approached regarding any aspect of the trials. Furthermore local management should be reminded of the terms of Paragraph 1 of the National Joint Statement – Restoring Good Industrial and Employee Relations which has been reproduced below for ease of reference.

The following process will urgently be deployed and overseen by GM’s and CWU Divisional Representatives.

All relevant managers/CWU interfaces will meet to calm situations down and find sensible solutions to any local issues. Everybody should work together to bring about a fresh start in the sprit of the proposed national agreement.

Any attempt to pursue trial activity which has not been agreed nationally should be reported to CWU HQ because the Union will view this as abrogating the Spirit and intent of the Joint Statement and undermining out joint commitment/efforts to restore good Industrial and employee Relations.

Any enquiries on the above should be directed to either the Outdoor/Indoor Occupational Officer as appropriate.

Yours sincerely

Thats interesting as I work in one of the offices listed and have no knowledge of any trials being agreed.Do the CWU know something I don't?
What exactly is a 'trial' - we tell you what to do and if you don't do it you get suspended?

in our office on a saturday drivers with a lot of firms shut used to do about an hours work then saunter back ti the office hand in their keys and go home.
this was crazy and could'nt last and now they are sent out with failed walks, if they had'nt been so silly to go back early they would have got away with it for long enough

Don't they have to go back to return the vans - and with the trackers they would have to.

HA HA serves them right for making us take big packets that only just fit into an empty bag, and going home sometimes before the walks are even out.
