The only chance he's got is if his manager is a decentTim76 wrote:My friend at work has a serious gambling addiction, he is considering rehab but wants to know where he stands with work? as it could be up to 12 weeks off work!
Most offices are on their arse with staff shortages and high sick levels because of the crappy workloads that the union and management have in place, getting a week off or even a day off
Still unless you ask you will never know.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09

Gambling within RM premises can become a conduct code issue as this is frowned upon.Tim76 wrote:My friend at work has a serious gambling addiction, he is considering rehab but wants to know where he stands with work? as it could be up to 12 weeks off work!
Athough the gambling is confined to outside your work admitting you have a gambling addidtion could open a can of worms and would be dependant on how your manager reacts to this diclosure.
I have found throughout my time with RM you try to put yourself into their shoes and how they think and be prepared on how the management would react to a given situation through their mangement training.
A good manager could be sympathetic to the employees problem and offer support to assist with their addiction. On the other hand another manager could take the view that his gambling addiction and him being in a position of trust in his employment they may be wary after being informed.
This situation needs very careful handling and knowing how the manager will react.

I would keep my mouth shut, jump on the panel with stress and tell this mob nothing as they will hold it against him at some point in the future as they are a total shower, as Terry Thomas would say. Me, they are a shower of w*****s.rehabron wrote:Gambling within RM premises can become a conduct code issue as this is frowned upon.Tim76 wrote:My friend at work has a serious gambling addiction, he is considering rehab but wants to know where he stands with work? as it could be up to 12 weeks off work!

Why cannot the doctor sign him off sick it is an illness I would go that route before confiding in this bunch of reckless gamblers that run us all into the ground each day for the chance of a bonus!
