PDA health issue
Hello,
I want to know if any other postmen have had any strange sensations from storing the new PDA's on their person?
I am currently operating a van share and utilise bags, and have been storing my PDA in a pouch in the bag between scans. I have been getting a warm sensation and dull ache in my groin and outer right leg for a few weeks now. It just happens to be where the PDA resides, and I am pretty certain the PDA is responsible. There is a lot of new information coming to light about mobile phones, and how they are cancer causing, they are basically mini microwaves and should never be kept close to the body.
Is it possible to switch off the data roaming function on our PDA's? I never had this with the old ones we used, as they were non invasive. It is the EMF radiation that is the problem.
If anybody wants to find out more, have a look at the website below and read what this chap has to say. Scary stuff...

I must admit I'm concerned about this as well.sibloo wrote:Hello,

Much more likely you have some other injury/illness completely unrelated to the PDA.

I was an underwriter for 11 years prior to being a postman, analysing Mortality and Morbidity for large companies. I have done lot's of research on this subject and there is clear evidence supporting the information shown on this guys website. He is also a sufferer by the way.
I'm afraid you cannot believe information peddled by a lot of large organisations. They throw out misinformation to support their agenda. For instance the link you provided is for Cancer research UK, guess who one of their corporate partners is...Scottish Power! You think they want people to be concerned about EMF and it's link to a whole host of ailments?
It is a real concern believe me. We need to be looking into disabling wifi on these devices, and to be honest there is no reason for it anyway. We can upload the data when we return back to the depot, just like we do when the service is down, which happens from time to time.

I paid attention to this today and noticed i had the same symptoms (dull ache in left groin area with pda in my left pocket). Never really put much thought into it and always just put it down to another ache and pain caused by the physical demands of the job, which it could well be but who knows!

Sounds similar to me. I am also getting a heat sensation around the area that comes and goes, it's weird. It's definitely the PDA, because when I had a week off it gradually dissipated, but then re-emerged after a few days of work.Jpro747 wrote:I paid attention to this today and noticed i had the same symptoms (dull ache in left groin area with pda in my left pocket). I am going to see if there is a way of turning off the wifi. If not then I will be forced to use a trolley and keep in there, which is sure to please my partner when he has to wait 10mins every loop!

When you're out on delivery they won't be using wifi, they'll be using the mobile phone network and so afaik can't have the connectivity switched off. I don't think it'll be too long now before RM start conduct coding anyone who turns the connectivity off on their PDA whilst out on delivery as with the way things are going it seems as if RM want to be able to track items in real-time

Well, mine wouldn't connect at all today, Even stood 100m from a mobile mast and it wouldn't connect
Only did so when I entered the yard at the end of the day.

I should have made my concerns a little clearer. It's not just Wifi but also the 4g and soon to be 5g connectivity that can cause problems. The following article is also very informative.SpacePhoenix wrote:When you're out on delivery they won't be using wifi, they'll be using the mobile phone network and so afaik can't have the connectivity switched off. We need to get the Union involved. It should be our right to choose if we are prepared to work with these devices in a non passive state, considering the now obvious risks. It is in RM's interest to be open to negotiation on this. If as I suspect more information comes to light in the months and years ahead, and workers start getting diagnosed with cancer, which may sound alarmist, but is a natural progression, then RM need to be seen as having considered the risk for fear of future recriminations.
Of course these devices aren't cheap, and RM spent a fortune bringing them in, but that shouldn't prevent them from being a responsible employer. To be honest, considering the price (£1000 to you and I),they aren't the most robust option. I have had a few stop working now when using them in the rain, and some of them in my depot are already looking tatty and becoming unreliable...

What about the Dihydrogen Monoxide which is piped into every Delivery Office up and down the country? Such a substance can be fatal if inhaled in the most minute quantity, can cause scalds in its gaseous state and is known to promote corrosion in ferrous metals. It's solid state can be hazardous to our health as well, as it has been known to be contributory cause of broken bones and fractures. Big Brother is out to get us!

If you are suffering symptoms that you think originate from this, then look into it further. I posted specifically about EMF because I have been suffering symptoms consistent with what others have found elsewhere. Diluting the message helps no one, except the corporate entity, and perhaps that's the idea?greengiant wrote:What about the Dihydrogen Monoxide which is piped into every Delivery Office up and down the country? This problem won't go away and is only likely to escalate in time. It's better that it's tackled now, whilst the processes are in their infancy and changes can be made. There are a lot less invasive ways of going about recording the delivery of an item. For instance we can upload the data between loops whilst at the van, if time sensitivity is now a key driver for business profitability...

I have recently started using a holster with the PDA to enable the route to be tracked in full to help keep RM off our backs. I haven't noticed any effects so far. The different model of holster which is fastened via the waist band or belt might be more problematic though as the PDA would then be in stationary contact with your body. So I would recommend the type with the strap going over your shoulder.

I worry about this too. There is clear evidence that it is bad for us. But then again thats the same for our laptops, tv's, microwaves etc..

How many people in this thread who are worried about it also have their smart phone on them, switched on at the same time?

Of course that electricsense site you linked to is going to over exagerate claims so they can sell their EMF snake oil?sibloo wrote:If you are suffering symptoms that you think originate from this, then look into it further.
